He didn't have the success at SC that Rod Dedeaux had, but hard to believe that since USC fired Gillespie after the '06 season (14 years ago), the Trojans have only been to a regional one (1) time, in 2015. The school with the most national championships missed the post season 9-straight years from '06 thru '14...and then again from '16 thru '19.

RIP Mike Gillespie

He had a bit of a renaissance at UC-Irvine from '08 thru '14, but his final 4 years at UCI were nothing to get excited about. Still a great, national championship coach, though.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

regarding Southern Cal baseball...

they have 2 big problems when compared to the other programs in Southern California..

1. cost of tuition.

a player on 30-40% scholarship is still going to pay out-of-pocket $25,000+ for annual tuition. Maybe more. So most players will have to come from affluent families.

2. the neighborhood.

when those affluent families drive over to look at the campus, they get an eyeful of an area they usually stay away from. And then UCLA or a nearby Big West school looks very, very attractive
