Not the modern era but the most successful as professionals after A&M. Elmendorf in the NFL obviously but he was a 2 time All American in baseball.

Dave Elmendorf
Wally Moon
Davey Johnson

Brodie Greene, exceptional all-around athlete, played IF and OF.

Hit for average, hit with power, never saw an Aggie baseballer with more clutch / game-winning hits.

Old-timer, often overlooked, R. J. Englert.

Good speed, good outfielder, has highest career A&M batting average, also, I think, longest consecutive game hitting streak.

I would do a 2000-2009 team position by position and a 2010-2020 team and compare them those that overlap can be put into either grouping.

That said the 89 hitting and 93 pitching combined would beat any of those all star teams likely. They were so fun to watch

C - M.Barash
1B - L. Anders
2B - B. Allemand
SS - B. Greene

I'm shamefully missing Blake Stouffer, but I don't know how to squeeze him in.

SP - Wacha
SP - Dox
SP - Asa
SP - Stripling

RP - R. Hendrix

just in the 21st century...

I would say the top 5 position players pound-for-pound are:

Cliff, Brodie, Naquin, KC, and Birk.

all multi-tool players that played at least 3 seasons for the maroon-n-white

These are mostly position players.

Best Aggie pitcher, yes, an old-timer, Doug Rau, 8 years with Dodgers, 3.35 ERA, 80 wins.

Two other really good old-time pitchers, Mark Thurmond and Mark Ross.

Stilson had a lights out year when he was here in aggieland, just didn't make it in the bigs. Strip and Wacha have performed in the majors so its tough to put those in a fair order. Asa over Dox in my opinion. Hendrix had one beast of a year as a closer, but then got in the spotlight and threw fastballs down the pipe (most likely Childress' doing). Got to be honest, Vinson was one the most fun pitchers to watch. He could pull the string on that so called curve and make batters look silly. Guys like Mengdon, Kent, and even Simmonds could make a good case to be on the list

Good to see a mention of Doug Rau. He was a bit before my time at A&M, but was a friend of my oldest brother when we lived in Columbus, TX. Got some good signed Dodger's baseballs when they would come to Houston.

Last I heard he was living in Katy.

My sister ran into him in Katy and he sent me a few signed items for my A&M baseball collection.

Look here, on this board, Minks has the best 'stache. He's also an incredibly gifted athlete capable of perfectly fielding his position.

He is Maroon Jesus and should be treated as such.

That's fair...I totally agree but you have to admit Mengdon had and still has a pretty good 'stache.

Lou Camilli '68

I played with Elmendorf, Long, Rau and Staples, Louie was the better player.

Switch-hitting infielder, played a few years with Cleveland Indians, never, never saw a baseball player with better reflexes, or a better pair of hands.

Everybody is forgetting Mark Ecker and Nolan Hoffman as closers. Ecker was lights out and Hoffman was probably the most fun to watch that I've seen in a long time.

Who would you put them over?

Tons of good options for sure.

one thing about Mark Ross and Mark Thurmond is that while both are Aggie Hall of Famers..they were not hard throwers but more command type pitchers. I doubt they would even be on Childress radar these days as RC likes to recruit the power pitcher. I realize times have changed from the 70's til 2020's. They were pitchers and winners for sure

Radar or no radar, Childress would take either one of these studs in a heartbeat.

Same goes for Doug Rau.
