Apparently fire Childress threads aren't welcome on the board (one was deleted)

Discuss if you feel we should make a coaching change based on the results of the Childress tenure.

I feel like it is time for a change. I think Childress is capable of putting it together somewhere, I'm just tired of waiting for it to happen at A&M. I could have handled losing a regional at home (**** happens), or making it to a super, but having neither means once again, no metric that matters has us in the Top 16 this year.

A pointless request, but please try to post from a reasoned instead of emotional point of view.

If you wanted a reasoned opinion rather than an emotional one you should have started this thread 7 days or so after the season ended, not 7 minutes.

Still think that was the last Childress coached baseball game at A&M. The results, the overall performance of the offense this year, and the timing on his contract all line up. If you play along as AD, the last time they might have made a change is 2014. And we changed the coordinator of the offense instead, so that card has been played. You weren't going to get a change after 2015 or 2016, or in 2017 after making a CWS.

And now A&M has more athletic department income thanks to the SEC. Childress was hired at a point where the AD was taking out loans. If they don't make a change here, I would think it signals pretty glaringly that we aren't football+basketball+baseball rich, or is commentary on the status of baseball's importance to the athletic department.

I'd definitely be looking for a replacement and if a bombshell hire was there I'd make the move. We will have enough pitching next year to make a smooth transition.

I'd also put serious pressure on rob to clean house and find some hitting gurus. If he was unwilling to do that then I'd be more likely to can him without a bombshell hire in place.

Super Regional every year should be the standard. We aren't really meeting that standard. Should we expect Texas A&M to go to Omaha at least once at least every 5 years? If you agree with both statements, then you should reply "out-when the opportunity is right". Don't fire the guy if you can't get better.

Even though I am still prett amped after this regional loss, I am going to take a step back and think about this.

I believe I would give him a year. Change hitting and recruiting. Give him 1 year and it's Omaha or gone.

Ditto. If it does happen, I look forward to seeing which posters will give up on that coach and when.

I agree for the most part. Not even the great programs will always make a super. But you need to be able to either host a regional or win a regional with consistency to claim to be a program with Omaha ambitions. We've had neither for 2 years. Even in our fruitless 2017 Omaha year, we had to sweat out selection Monday, and have a 4 seed take care of the national seed for us.

2015 and 2016 were the fatal blows to Rob. We just didn't know it at the time.

Need fresh blood and coaches would line up for a chance to lead this program. RC is a nice guy but he's not getting it done on the field. Recruiting has come back to bite him as we don't have the players to make it to Omaha.

Lance is the only one bringing up a very key factor, which is next year being the last year on Childress' contract.
Basically, at this point they either fire him or sign him to some sort of extension. Retaining him without an extension will make this recruiting cycle a good deal more difficult.

He would be fired if Woodward was still AD, I just think you're asking a lot of anew AD to fire a guy first day on the job. You can't wait much past July can you?

I guess if Sharp or Young are big baseball fans you might get movement to can him now, but not sure they care

14 years. Nearly half my life. And we still don't have the shiny hardware we should with the facilities, money, and talent we have had over the years. Baseball is baseball. Anyone on this board knows that. It's a fickle sport. But we have more than enough data points by now to make strong correlations that point to the head coach.

14 years...... Let that sink in a bit.

If firing Childress is on the table, Bjork has already had many conversations about it, and possibly has a handful of potentials in mind.
If not, we've got bigger problems than just a baseball staff.

You know what you get with Childress. If you are ok with that then we have the right guy.

If you want more then we don't.

Many people think that, but this situation is his job. What's really different about doing it this year instead of next or a few later?

But if we're to believe the rumors about Woodward, he won't have that much autonomy anyway. There are probably other people that have to give the signal to make a move in the first place. And if we're to believe other rumors, Childress was put on notice about this season before it even started.

Make the change. We fired our basketball coach who went to the Sweet 16 two out of 3 years and landed a much better coach. Football and basketball are much higher revenue generating sports with broader fan bases, this is an easy move.

It certainly seems to me that a change is needed.

A perfectly good, tournament deep pitching staff was wasted this year by having a historically bad offense.

The big question is does baseball require a wealthy benefactor to pony up to make a change or is it small enough potatoes to be absorbed in the overall AD budget?

Pay a top notch hitting coach and let Childress continue to develop strong pitching. We've had a few teams good enough to win it all in his tenure; this wasn't one of them due I believe to hitting coaches not developing our hitters, especially picking up good off speed pitching. Imagine if Deloach hit .300 and Shew left in the 3 hole... and guys like frizzell were more consistent...

P.S. too much bunting
