for the ACC tournament, the 3 teams to keep an eye are : #17 Miami, #20 North Carolina, and #18 N.C. State.

Miami plays Thursday and Friday.

UNC plays Wednesday and Friday.

the Wolfpack plays Thursday and Friday.

the pool winners advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. Miami and UNC are in the same pool

and for the Big 12 tournament...

the 1-4-5-8 side of the bracket is Tech, WVU, KU, and KSU.

the 2-3-6-7 side is BU, OSU, OU, and TCU.

only 4 of the 8 teams have at-large berths secured if they don't win the tournament: Tech, OSU, WVU, and Baylor.

and of course the Big 12 tourney is notorious for the #1 seed no-showing and an upset tourney winner emerging. Last year's final was the #5 seed vs. the #6 seed. The 2017 final featured the #6 seed vs. the #8 seed.

the last time the regular season champ (or co-champ) also won the tournament...the 2011 texas aggies

checking in with the bayou city teams...

it was a bad season for #140 Rice (24-31). It will take a minimum of 4 wins...starting on Wednesday...to capture the C-USA tourney crown and make the postseason.

on the flipside...the Coogs (33-22) are in good shape at RPI #40 to receive an at-large berth. AAC record is 12-12. Might want to win at least 1 game in the conference tournament to be safe. UH looks like a #3 seed. Could bump to a #2 seed with several wins this week

on the national scene...Florida State (35-21) lost its opener in the ACC tournament. RPI down to #55. The 'noles are cutting it close.

and in general the ACC is messy right now with 5 teams between #40 and #55 in RPI. Some will make the field...and some will not

If Florida St comes down to the last 5 in; first 5 out category, I wonder how many on the committee are going to say "well, since it is Martin's last year, the Seminole's should be given the benefit of the doubt".

That's a potential bid stealer. Teams like Florida and Missouri won't like that.

Pool play simply sucks as a method of determining a tournament championship. While not necessarily fair, the SEC Tournament is miles better than how the ACC determines its automatic bed.

I actually like the pool play format. Rewards the higher seed a bit more and gives each team at least two games at the tourney.
If it is a three team pool then the higher seed only has to win one game possibly to advance. Those with worse records have to win both

2 & Q for the Coogs at the AAC tournament. UH (33-24) will take a mid-40's RPI to the committee on selection day.

went 2-6 in their last 8 games of the season. Best series wins came out of conference vs. #23 DBU and #45 Arizona.
