How does Dallas Baptist pull a school like Minnesota (regional host last year) for a midweek game and we are stuck playing all teams from Texas during the midweek??

Also Tech is going to Duke for a midweek game in April. I feel like we could get more creative with ours

Ummmm Minnesota is playing a 3 game series at DBU this weekend, not a midweek game.

And the tech midweek schedule has been discussed over and over again here. They're by no one, so they might as well try to schedule Oregon instead of Lamar. Pretty much everyone is a plane trip away. They also play a combined 6 midweek games against New Mexico and New Mexico State. It's just a product of location. I know RC doesn't want to hop on a plane cross country for a midweek game in the middle of conference play and he doesn't need to when we have RPI boosters within driving distance.

And DBU 's league the has only 8 teams in it which means they have as many nonconference weekends as conference ones which gives them more flexibility, I would not be at all surprised to see them make a trip to Minnesota to play the Gophers in 2020.

My bad for some reason I saw DBU vs Minnesota and thought midweek. They also have OU on their midweek schedule and that's a long trip for the sooners to make on a Tuesday

Also Arizona came to Rice last night. Seems like it's not just Tech being in Lubbock that's causing this. Houston is 90 miles from College station and Dallas is 3 hours away. If those teams are willing to travel there on weekdays it seems like we can pull some good out of state OOC opponents for midweek

Dallas is a far closer to Norman than College Station. Arizona is in Houston to play Cougar High so it makes it easy to pick up a midweek with the Owls.

I agree it would be nice if the Ags would show a little creativity in their schedule. We had several discussions about this when the schedule was released.

Arizona is in town for a weekend series at the Houston Cougars. So, they will play in the city of Houston on Wednesday against Rice and then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at U of Houston.

Arizona's drivable midweek opponents are Grand Canyon (home and away) and Arizona St. (single non-conference game a different week than their conference series). Then, they have some regional games that likely require flying like New Mexico St. (twice), New Mexico (once), and San Diego St. (they stay over in Southern California for a Monday game after a weekend series at UCLA). Their other weekday games are Michigan St. and Xavier (both on Tuesday's after their opponent plays Arizona St. in a weekend series). The bottom line is they have to be creative, coordinate with Arizona St., or someone has to fly. That being said there may be an opportunity for us to play a non-regional school on a Tuesday or Wednesday that is in Texas to play Rice, Houston, Baylor, Texas, or Sam Houston for a weekend series.

We will likely always schedule our first series with a no name northern opponent as we will fill the stands weather permitting for just about anyone and it is custom for southern schools to host northern schools in February if possible

What I would like to see is maybe a two game series mid week with tech home or away and a home and home with Texas not just alternate year home game.
Also maybe a four game series instead of a three game series against a ACC opponent in the last week before conference maybe along with our Frisco/Minute Maid tourney

We have to travel so much further than our SEC opponents that I can't blame Rob for wanting to minimize non-conference travel. I can't see doing a midweek game with Tech, or the Oklahoma schools for that matter, for that reason. I loved going to Pepperdine, and would like to see us play one marquee non-conference series with someone, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen. It seems that we'll have to settle for one tournament, and cupcakes. That seems to be the formula.

when I see "marquee" .... I don't think of a school like Pepperdine.

I'd rather see us play a Pac 12 or ACC school in a weekend series

You haven't been to Malibu.

Seriously, they do have a national championship on their resume. An ACC school would be better, but it's not easy to entice them to travel (they have it even better than we do, for the most part, as far as teams willing to travel to their place). If we're going to fly somewhere, it's hard to beat Malibu.

as we discussed in the offseason...Childress is taking some risk this year with the non-conference schedule.

let's hope Fordham, UIC, and Gonzaga are decent this year. So far the trio is a sparkling 1-9 on the season

Malibu is the schnizz. And the problem with midweek games against Tech or whomever is you have to go there every other year.

so Kentucky and Tech are playing this weekend...

they played last year and the Wildcats won 2 of 3. Handily beat the Red Raiders in the first 2 games. Tech salvaged the finale.

and then the selection committee completely ignored the series at the end of the year...as if it never happened

this florida - miami game has been fun. benches cleared after a double play killed a miami rally. no punches thrown, fortunately. players are going back and forth. miami hit a three run homer and the bench went nuts. the first base umpire is breaking up the first baseman and the miami baserunner.. you can feel the energy at the stadium.

i am AGAINST playing the sips in football but i would love to see a nonconference series with them in baseball. i don't know why this hasn't happened yet.

miami is winning 3-1 in the top of the 7th.
