Good to see Boomer up in the box talking baseball, but I'd rather see him in field playing baseball. Is he still with Padres organization? Anyone have an update on where or if he is playing this season?

I thought they said he was finishing a graduate degree, that's why he was in town.

Didn't have bad numbers. Only played 17 games. Anyone know why?

Boomer was called up to California to High A and once called up got off to a great Start and fell off a bit , he then got injured for the 2nd time and it was very hard. Prior to his injury he was playing his best baseball. Once he was cleared to return to play , they said they wanted to send him back down to get some ABs before he came back up. This was very hard on him and did not set well. He went to the Padres and told them he did not want to go down ( as he is not hanging in the minors for long periods) and would rather play every 2nd or 3rd day getting ABs. They said they wanted him to go down and assured it would not be long to come back up , but that's never a guarantee. He did not like there answer and was not clear at all how they felt about him. He has a very very hard decision to stay or just leave. He made a decision to leave ( knowing he has A really Bright future in a lot of areas. ) Once he left on his own, the team put him on the suspended list hoping he would be back. He asked for his release and with some work he was able ti get it. He then had to make a decision on school or go to spring training with another team. I'm the mean time he immediately enrolled back in school. Spring training was not pushed at all as the kid is happier than I've seen him in a long tine. His education. Was very very high on his list knowing to make it to the show can take years which he was not going to gamble on and finsish his education ( like many others ) Years and years down the road. He is very close to the Aggie family and many coaches from not only A&M. Baseball was not who Boomer White is even though he was good at it. Baseball was what Boomer did ... this kid has such a bright future and what a great Aggie, who represents Aggie nation everywhere. I'm best friends with his uncle.

Thanks for sharing. Loved watching him play while we had the chance and glad he seems happy regardless of if he's playing ball or not.

unfortunately there is some luck involved in the draft...with regard to which team drafts you.

would not want to be part of the Padres organization

All the best to Boomer. He's a great kid!

I thought he was great in the booth today. This kid has a great future ahead of him no matter what he decides to do, that's for sure. He defines class and character, and I'm glad he's a Texas Aggie.

Agreed with his abilities in the booth!

First, I hate not to see him on the field but can respect a tough decision like that.

We had to stream the game while driving on the way back in town yesterday. I only caught the audio as my daughter kept the phone in the backseat (and I was driving). But I got to hear Boomer converse for a few innings with the announcers. WOW! What a great baseball mind, well-spoken and so much to contribute to the color commentary. If nothing else, he has a bright future in announcing. We really enjoyed listening to Boomer for those few innings!

He had a great contact hit tool but was a bit of a man without a position and didn't have a lot of top end power. MLB was always going to be a tough fit for him. No shame in that. He had an amazing college career and was a key component of some very exciting teams.

Baseball isn't going to be a career for everyone that wants it. He got to love the dream almost a decade longer than most of us. Frankly I'm happy to see him not waste years in the minors when he has other quality life options.

Ackar, thanks for sharing that. Somehow I missed that when it was originally posted. However, I did catch Boomer on texags radio a few days ago and he was fantastic. Not just good, but really good. If he chooses to go that route, he could be a star.

Maybe he could make a career out of it and we can get some better TV commentary!

I generally don't like guests in the broadcasting booths. Dave South (and I like Dave) was especially bad about forgetting the ball game when a guest was in the booth.

I'm going to go a bit against the grain here. I think Boomer is great at what he does and would be great on ESPN or SEC network as a neutral participant in announcing a game.

However, that's not what I'm looking for when there's a home feed to one of our games. I want a homer and Boomer must be auditioning because he's at best a neutral observer.

So much THIS. I don't expect 'Rock the Good Ag', but if it's our feed he could be a smidge partial to the good guys. It's certain when listening to Boomer you'll get solid baseball analysis and him almost gushing over the Ag's opponent.

Boomer is fine, you people are miserable. His delivery and commentary is similar to Coach J's in it's neutrality but with a younger perspective. Typical TexAgs victimhood and handwringing.
