Not at all, I'll just be shocked because most high school players drafted in the top 5 rounds end up signing
I know you're being sarcastic, but yes it is shocking news.aginlakeway said:Shocking news ...HoustonAg2106 said:jt2hunt said:

While that is all true generally, by the time you made your post it was pretty apparent he was coming to A&M. So while it would have been shocking news a couple of weeks ago, this isn't shocking news now. That is why we are giving you a hard time.HoustonAg2106 said:I know you're being sarcastic, but yes it is shocking news.aginlakeway said:Shocking news ...HoustonAg2106 said:jt2hunt said:

Last year only 2 players in the top 10 rounds didn't sign, it's pretty rare to get a kid like this to turn down pro ball and come to college for 3 years....good job by RC to get him to campus.
A projected high round pick? That would be Turner Larkins.W said:
so the last time A&M got a high school player to campus who was a top 5 round pick...?
would it be Greg Porter in 1998? (3rd round pick)

Wasn't he taken in something like the 28th round?TXAggie2011 said:Hop said:A projected high round pick? That would be Turner Larkins.W said:

Actual high round pick...
He was drafted in the 3rd round coming out of high school and turned it down to go to A&M in 1998, in 2001 he was drafted in the 45th round coming out of A&M...didn't really work out for him I guess.Hop said:Wasn't he taken in something like the 28th round?TXAggie2011 said:Hop said:A projected high round pick? Larkins was taken in the 28th round, yes. I am saying W is asking about actual high round picks not signing and coming to A&M.Hop said:Wasn't he taken in something like the 28th round?TXAggie2011 said:Hop said:A projected high round pick? That would be Turner Larkins.W said:

True enough, except that Porter was on a football full scholarship and didn't want to give up that sport (his father was a pro football player). Because of the full scholarship, and the football experience, his choice was a little different than the prototypical high school baseball prospect.HoustonAg2106 said:He was drafted in the 3rd round coming out of high school and turned it down to go to A&M in 1998, in 2001 he was drafted in the 45th round coming out of A&M...didn't really work out for him I guess.Hop said:Wasn't he taken in something like the 28th round?TXAggie2011 said:Hop said:A projected high round pick? Good point, it's definitely different. But still a lot of people would pass up playing college football to sign a top 5 round draft contract for baseball...that's a lot of money for an 18 year old to turn down.twk said:True enough, except that Porter was on a football full scholarship and didn't want to give up that sport (his father was a pro football player).
