Someone posted on another board that with the academic scholarship money that Pepperdine could offer (which we could not), he was getting something like a 60-70% scholarship.

they had two kids from the same school in Houston.

Not sure of the ties out there, but as Boomer said saturday "the recruiting is easy. just have them hit some BP and watch balls to left look like they are gonna hit the ocean and add that all games are day games so you never miss this view" (or something similar)

I was under the impression that Shewmake was our short stop of the future and that Janca was also recuited here for that spot. Also didn't a Frosh middle infielder from last year transfer out do to the fact with Shewmake coming in and Janca was ahead of him? Anyways with only 11.7 scholarships to offer you can not always offer to every kid that might impress you at a particular position, you need catchers and pitchers and outfielders too. Pepperdine might have also been a better fit for him academicly as well as for baseball.

That doesn't matter to some kids. They'd rather get 2/3 of 45k covered by scholarship rather than 1/3 of 15k. It's more about "respect" than economics.

If he gets 60% at Pepperdine his family is still paying 40% of 67k or still more then it would cost to go to A&M and he would have to have had like a 4.2/33 act or so to get that. Pepperdine played until this year 4 scholarships down for providing both athletic money and academic money to baseball players 6-7 years ago and know first hand they don't do that anymore. Could be he was the recipient of one of the last couple scholarships that got returned for this year. Nothing wrong with that, the kid appears to deserve it.

The parents/grandparents of the other one at that school in Houston sat near me Saturday. Their son went 0fer that day, although they were happy with the win. The ball 5 chant angered the grandfather but he realized it was in jest and enjoyed the game after that.
