A two RBI double has never been called a two RBIs double.
You mean a two-run double has never been called a two RBIs double? You would be correct.

Perhaps he just means two-RBI double?

Interesting.

So

When I summarize Mickey Mantle's 1956.......

Do I say, ".353 BA, 52 home runs, 130 RBIs"

or

".353 BA, 52 home runs, 130 RBI" ?

ESPN started the RBI pluralization. That's what happens when people who don't know baseball get all academic about the game.

1 Run Batted In = 1 RBI
2 Runs Batted In = 2 RBIs (mathematical proof: 1RBI+1RBI=2RBIs)
the s doesn't pluralize the runs, it pluralizes the acronym. if we want to get all academically correct, I guess the plural of RBI should be RBI's since you add 's to pluralize an acronym, but i think that's just hippy nonsense, so RBIs since that's how you say it.

It's how it's always been and it's how it should always be.

if you don't like RBIs, just call them "Ribbies"

Does your car say "MPHs"?

No.

When you're going 65 miles per hour your speedometer says 65 mph.

I don't think they're changing it to be cute -- I think they realized the old way was wrong.

Like people realized sacrificing bunting is wrong.
And will eventually learn that punting on 4th and 2 at your own 45 is nearly always wrong.

This thread is what happens when people get caught up trying to prove they know more than everyone else.

Not had anybody ever said a running back has had a 100 yards games or a coach had had back to back 10 wins seasons.

You are just talking about the adjective form which is not pluralized.

Can't pluralize an acronym that doesn't exist.
