The infield and outfield are grass and that's what matters most. Easier upkeep in the high traffic areas behind the plate and the first third of the baselines.

Yes, A&M has a long history of trying to be like other schools.

Have those speaking for Leo ever met him? He hated how bad that area was. Every. Year. IMO, he knew y'all wouldn't let him live it down if he embraced advancements "cuz weez an Ag school".
The new guys get to spend more time and resources on the part of the field that actually matters. Good for them.

So let's add a slight wrinkle to the question...just a hypothetical..,
If you knew by going to an all turf infield that we could somehow guarantee a National Championship in the next 5 years, would you do it? Could you stomach looking at a turf infield in exchange for a banner on the center field fence?
Count me in. Heck, I'd take a full on maroon turf infield (ala Boise State football) for a mere single trip to Omaha in the next 5 years.
Oh, and turf around the outskirts of the field...that is no big deal.

Against. Even if it's just the area behind home plate. I've seen a lot of places that do something like that and I hate the look.
The grass in that area was never in very good shape anyway, I don't like it, but can live with it, if it's done right.
