Aggie basketball history before the 70's, and frankly before Gillespie, is irrelevant. Ever since Billy G elevated the program we have made the tournament about 50% of the time.
We have more often than not embraced the up and coming hire, and every single coach no matter the recruits has struggled to find reliable offense.
Buzz has been VERY good as far as season results go, but barring an Elite 8 or better this year, will have about the same tourney results as Turgeon and Kennedy. A sweet 16 would get him more in the Billy G camp with tournament results.
Buzz is a phenomenal developer of character and runs a very clean and very admirable program. The guys play extremely hard and do all the little things it takes to win. Whether Buzz is incapable of putting an offense together to get us over the hump, or it truly is the Jimmies, this postseason will define his career here. Because next year is going to be rough if he returns, even with a load of transfers.
This program is capable of recruiting at a high enough level. The big issue is there doesn't seem to be the institutional and fan dedication, especially on the NIL front, to truly get us over the hump of the "happy to make the tournament every other year" club.
If we lose Buzz, we likely sacrifice short term pain and have to hope to hit a home run on and up and comer. And those are risky, as we are a stepping stone school because of the lack of wide spread support.
