The environment at UH for an exhibition games is 10x times better than our regular season games. Need to step it up to get big time recruits like them.

This is absolutely ridiculous hyperbole

I think we are going to be a much much better team this year
Why do you think so? Just curious
just the play of Payne is something we lacked last year. Assuming this scrimmage is an anomaly and we build as the season goes, the addition of Payne will really benefit our team this year. He brings elite rim protecting as well as another solid rebounder! That size along with the defensive play of Andersson Garcia and Soloman Washington will make it really tough for teams to score on us. Adding Phelps to the occasion helps offensively, we just need Obaseki to play like late season Obaseki along with 4 being 4!

I didn't realize this was happening yesterday. And I was in downtown Houston...

Wade still taking poor shots.

When the Aggies are down, I find that Wade wants to be the team and not lead the team.

It's not all on him.

Yeah, he tends to try to post hero ball. It's not necessary. When he's wide open and in rhythm - fine. But, jacking up ill-advised shots - no.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

#11 for UH is an absolute monster. Coleman can't handle him.
yep, he had 8 offensive rebounds

Seems his turnovers were the issue, not his shooting. I didn't get to watch but 18 points on 8 shots and 50% from the floor is pretty efficient basketball. Every else combined had just 48 points on 37 shots.

He can't turn it over at a high rate, that's a huge problem, but if he's shooting it at 50% and getting fouled he can shoot whatever shot he wants.

That said I do understand that criticizing Wade's shot selection on the game thread is tradition and I appreciate you being in midseason form. Seems you're way ahead of the team right now.

I was watching the exhibition game.
Are we moving to four quarters instead of two halves?

I didn't get to watch but it seems like we are starting off the year just like about what we should expect. Buzz after all knows that we start the season off behind other teams and plans on having that pay off late in the year.

I don't know that we're going to be that much behind this year, but there's a lot of factors that make me not particularly worried about this exhibition at all, but especially not having Phelps. We're not going to beat a team that's like Houston defensively without him unless someone on our team plays some kind of extreme outlier game offensively.

Luckily we won't play many (any?) teams that are defensively like Houston, and hopefully we'll have Phelps if and when we do.

I'm with bobinator, not worried about this one at all. I only got to watch the first 15ish minutes of the first half, but we were down two starters, and the only guy that started this one that played more than 30 mins was Jace Carter. Good experience for the team to get some high level competition and not have it count as a loss.

Let's hope Phelps and Solo are good to go for next Monday!

I liked him as a rim protector--something we've been missing.

I was there. UH's defense was suffocating and they basically did everything we try to do well, but they did it twice as well. Rebounding (offensive and defensive), defense, hustle. We needed another ball handler to step up and Manny tried, but he's just not there yet from a ball handling perspective against a team like UH. It was pretty frustrating to watch, but UH will be in the national title conversation all year, so it was a good dress rehearsal for the guys.

I'm not sweating this too much , UH is most likely the best team we'll face all year and we did it in an exhibition. Plus we had two starters out (Solo and Phelps).

Also, this is more of just a rant... but their fans were incredibly annoying. I had this old UH fan sitting next to me yelling at the refs, players, and coaches like it was a final four game. And a few guys behind me told us that we should go ahead and leave to beat traffic. It was an exhibition!

If our read n Buzz's approach is salient, he is working the team to get them to use his guidance to run the offense and defense on their own as much as possible. I think it leaves us more vulnerable to emotional swings and early losses, but when it works the team demonstrates interdependence and trust for each other.

It hasn't worked perfectly yet, but it feels like this year could be different. Except when you rewind the UH exhibition…
