Looking at BartTorvik's 2023 preseason ratings today and found this interesting:

#18 - Texas A&M
#43 - Tulane
#145 - SMU

According to this, we traded what would be a quad 1 road game @ Tulane for a quad 3 home game vs. SMU this season. Not a good look for our tournament resume. Guess we will just have to wait and see how it all plays out!

This is case where I think having a home game against a team people have at least heard of is better than a road game at Tulane.

We should never play a one game series at a program like Tulane. If we would have gone their this year, they needed to return the game next year.

If we are going to do a one game road series, let's at least make it worth our while and go to a traditional top 10 program instead a program that rarely makes a NCAA tourney like Tulane.

This game was part of the SEC/American "scheduling alliance" thing right? It's not like we ever signed up to just play one game at Tulane, they were supposed to come here last year and it got cancelled.

But either way, yeah, we don't need to be playing road games at Tulane.

Adding context to this:

Tulane brought back all their top production, brought in transfers from bigger/P5 schools, and had a good conference record last year (10-8). Other sites have them consistently in the top 3-4 of the AAC alongside Houston, Memphis, & Cincinnati. Seems to be a boom or bust team to me.

SMU lost some of their best players to the portal, and their coach retired. Didn't add too much in the portal and hired Georgia State's head coach Rob Lanier. Who knows how they will be, but it is likely rebuild mode.

Found this interesting too: Georgia State's last 2 head coaches are now the head coaches at Tulane and SMU respectively (Ron Hunter & Rob Lanier).

Maui,
Any home and home's you think we might look to add? Anything out of the box?

It would be cool to play an east coast team home and home. I'd be happy with a good Big East or ACC team. Heck, even an A10 team would be fine. More quality games close to home should be a no-brainer too like Houston or Baylor or Texas Tech. One can dream!
