I think I'm going. Cheap flight ($170). Got a room at Mandalay Bay where the event will be held for $120/night. That's after all taxes, fees, etc.

About the cheapest holiday hoops road trip out there.

Anybody else going?

If you're paying for rooms in Vegas, you're doing it wrong.

Does Texags have any spare credentials to hand out for the event?

Those days are over my friend. The revenue model used to be "get them in the door and get their money from gambling." Now, it's a pretty standard business model creating revenue through rooms, food, entertainment, etc.. Not many places where you can still get a $1.99 steak dinner.

Or you didn't lose your ass at the tables the last time you went

Comps are still very much a thing in Vegas, but the level of play you need to achieve them has risen significantly.

I can't speak for the table games, but a handful of 5-figure sportsbook wagers used to get you a room if the right people were working that day. Now it'll get you some token drink tickets.

I play $25-50/hand table games and haven't paid for a room in Vegas in probably 5 years since we started consistently going 1-2 times a year. Comps are very much still out there, and easily achievable if you're smart (i.e. spend all your money with the same chain to maximize your comps).

Yeah, I imagine with the table games they've got the algorithm pretty well defined based on number of plays and what a customer is "worth" to them. The non-fixed odds things (like sports betting) have all had their comps reduced significantly across the board the last 5 years.

Haven't been on the board in a while - but was fun to be back on the air this morning with Richard Zane.

Any Aggies that come out to Vegas, let me know - would love to get together to watch some of the games!
