(Title edit: This team...)
Here at a pretty empty Reed again (granted, bad weather), but Buzz's team has definitely established an identity. Namely the Ags are never going to come out flat defensively.

This bunch gets after it hard and plays together very well on the defensive end from the get go. No matter the opponent. No matter the attendance.

Plenty of warts on the offensive end (turnovers), but not because of selfish play. There is purposeful movement, with and without the ball.

We will benefit greatly from the return of Nebo and Starks. Without them, we will struggle badly power 5 competition.

It's easy to see the solid foundation being laid.

Agreed. I love the effort and activity on the defensive end.

Our identity is getting its ass kicked by ULM.

Yikes that 1st half was hard to watch. We cant shoot at all! We're playing hard but very sloppy.

We had an assist on our opening possession, then a grand total of 1 more assist the rest of the half.

Value the basketball. Make FTs. Keep defending. Win your clunkers.

After the first couple of turnover filled minutes of the second half in which we fell behind 10, we valued the ball far better, shot FTs far better, and kept defending hard.

Eventually Chandler, Gordon, Jackson, and Nebo picked up the slack offensively for an ineffective Flagg. The key was simply attempting open shots in the flow of the offense.

As long as Chandler's late game leg injury is minor, there are positives to be taken from this win. Granted ULM is not a particularly good team, but the Ags responded to game pressure by playing their best. Especially impressive to see from fish like Gordon and Jackson. And really refreshing to see Grown Assed Man Nebo back.

A less mentally tough team would've lost tonight. We didn't.

I disagree to some extent, tonight. Coming out with energy on defense is one thing. But our spacing isn't good and we gave up open 3's and several easy layups in the halfcourt. Then in the second half, we let that No. 2 constantly get his shot off when he's draining 3's all over the place. Just because the players are hustling and running to the ball doesn't mean it's good defense. If you chase the ball, there still needs to be somebody covering the backside.

I like the potential, but there's still a lot of work to do defensively...and of course offensively.

At 19:09 left, ULM led us 34-24. At 12:28 they led us 45-38. ULM didn't score for again until 4:52 left, cutting the A&M lead to 52-48. Ima go ahead and give our defense a lot of credit there.

Even without Chandler down the stretch, ULM never had possession w a chance to tie in the last 5 minutes of the game.

At least it's aggressive over pursue, can't teach energy and it's there

Actually you can coach energy and it is very evident that Buzz and his staff accept nothing less.

Energy and aggressiveness is better than being uninspired and plodding. I'm just saying there's more to good defense than simply playing aggressively. You must have efficient rotations on the backside to cover open shooters created by aggressive close-outs and double teams. You still need proper defensive principles. I was surprised we gave up a couple of baseline layups when our guys were in position to cut off the baseline. I'm sure they will get there, but it may be fun to watch that style, but A&M still has work to do in executing that style.

Enjoy watching both Gordon and Jackson and the way they put so much pressure on the ball defensively. Jackson is actually a Jr that transferred in though. Wish he was a fish and would be here longer.

It was not a complete effort on either side of the ball. It showed effort and willingness to hit the floor because Buzz is demanding that. Hopefully both trends converge.

The ULM team actually showed physicality, good coaching, and were better prepared to get shots in because of it. Their defensive effort was good and they almost both kept us under 60 and if they had done so they might have reached 60 first. That was a GOOD team for us to play the second game. We should have very good tape to run through......
