I think worrying about how "green" this staff may be is a exercise in futility. Buzz thinks they're worthy so that's all that should matter.

Buzz is a Saint! Don't question his decisions.

Buzz has yet to coach a game so questioning him at this point seems agenda driven. If his coaches don't work out then question him all you want.

I have no agenda, just thought it was interesting that we're probably sporting the least experienced staff in the nation.

Is that not worthy of a post on a thread explicitly about the A&M assistant staff?

Buzz seems to be a very loyal guy to his people. Somebody gave him a shot and I think he rewards his people who have worked hard and been with him in some capacity and gives them a shot.

Nah, let's wait for Blackshear's decision first. Buzz is just on double secret probation until then.

Yeah there's something to going with guys you trust, especially when moving to a new program. Kennedy didn't bring Abdul Rahim with him when he first got here, and I bet he regretted choosing not to do so.

I think a top notch recruiter is probably necessary for Buzz to get us where we want to go, but he has a couple of years to either groom one of the young guys or find someone as the staff changes over

However, dots remain to be connected in filling out a coaching staff and a roster.

"We've got to keep moving," Williams said Thursday on the Southeastern Conference summer teleconference. "We need to keep moving in recruiting. We need to keep moving in who we are hiring. All of that, when you're dealing with careers, when you're dealing with players, as far as the decisions that they are going to make, it's an on-going deal."

Williams' mug shot still stands alone in the coaching section on the Aggies' official web page. Former Virginia Tech assistant coach Jamie McNeilly has changed his Twitter and LinkedIn profiles to reflect a move to the same position at A&M, but Williams declined to name any coaching hires by name Thursday.

McNeilly played for Williams at New Orleans and has worked under him since 2008 at Marquette.

Buzz is the last coach interviewed and starts around the 1:42 mark.

A little odd to play so coy with the staffing process, if the final decisions have truly been made. I wonder if a guy like Wolf has been placed in an assistant coach position temporarily to allow him freedom in recruiting with the understanding that Buzz is still evaluating other candidates for the permanent position.

So is Walden back in and one of the other coaches out?

Quote:

I can confirm that Vince Walden has joined Buzz Williams' new staff at Texas A&M as an assistant coach. This is the second move this off season for Walden, who left Arkansas State back in April to become an assistant at Elon.

Walden had spent the past two seasons working for Mike Balado at Arkansas State. Prior to that, he served two stints at IMG Academy from 2006-12 and 2015-17 as the national team head coach. Walden also worked for three seasons from (2012-15) as an assistant coach at Liberty University.

The announcement of the complete Texas A&M staff is expected soon.

Williams, the former Virginia Tech coach, has yet to formally announce Walden's arrival as well as his other Texas A&M assistants and staff members, even though the Aggies made his hiring official April 3.

Veteran coach Dale Layer, a special assistant to Williams at Virginia Tech and now Texas A&M, has been a mentor to Walden through the years. That's one connection in play. Walden worked under Layer for three seasons when Layer was the coach at Liberty from 2009-15.

Kind of random, but hypothetically, if a player wanted to meet with Buzz during a non-contact period but didn't have time/ability to drive to College Station, could Buzz meet them at the Law School in Ft. Worth for an unofficial visit or like the Galveston campus or something?
