Thx.
Makes sense. IIRC, our last one was before the 15/16 SEC champs season where Elijah had the unfortunate incident with a sea urchin.
Should be some good time to bond/build chemistry with a new staff and a roster that had high turnover.

Hmmm...since I live in Panama which is right next door...maybe I'll check out their schedule when it gets closer.

I play an expert on many things on the internet, but the Costa Rican basketball scene is out of my "expertise" Is the Costa Rican basketball scene good enough for us to find 3-4 competitive opponents?

Eastern Kentucky played in Costa Rica last summer. Here was what they did/played. A nice thing about these trips is the extra summer practices allowed to prepare for it.

Quote:

The Colonels will play three games during their stay in San Jose, Costa Rica's capital city. They'll take on Laurentian University on Aug. 8 at 8 p.m., San Ramon on Aug. 9 at 9:30 p.m., and Laurentian University again on Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. The team will also participate in a service project at Holy Spirit Orphanage and a zipline canopy tour.
In the weeks leading up to the trip the Colonels will hold eight open practices in Alumni Coliseum, their home court on EKU's campus.

"Team Costa Rica has never qualified for the FIBA World Cup or the FIBA AmeriCup. Yet, the team has shown strong performances at the regional level. At the 2015 FIBA COCABA Championship, Costa Rica finished 2nd, its best performance so far."

From: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costa_Rica_national_basketball_team

"Costa Rica has no professional league, but it has seven scrappy First Division men's teams, some considered semipro, that are open to all ages and compete from February to September."

Judging by the summer UTRGV had there...no.

https://goutrgv.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball
(They beat a their top league Champion 85-56, then beat their national team 87-68)

But I'm sure they'll still find a way to have fun.

I'm sure that Buzz has ulterior reasons why he's taking the team to Costa Rica.
The conversations will be uncomfortable, but we all have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable for progress to be made.

If you get the chance to take a trip to CR on the program's dime AND get extra practice time AND generate a roster-bonding experience for a young squad... you should do that 10 out of 10 times.

As a fun fact, Texas A&M has an education & research center in Costa Rica. Bill Soltis '55 donated 250 acres of rainforest to the university, which is a lot of rainforest for someone to own. He's also the grandfather of former aggie soccer player, Suzette Devloo.
