Pearl is a better coach than AJ. Not sure how this will turn out.

I remember a low seeded Pearl team taking the Ags out in their first game at th SEC tournament. BK does not own him or any other SEC coach.

That's some quality research because the only game that stuck out in my mind was the loss in the tournament. We weren't the only big favorites to lose to that Auburn team and that mini-miracle run though.

I'd have never guessed those were the results in the others even though I'm certain I watched all of those games.

Kennedy is 5-1 vs. Pearl as GE pointed out, but this particular time around, Pearl clearly has the better team nor does the matchup look good, so still would be mildly surprised if A&M gets the upset tonight.

Everybody thinks they are the smart money, and half are wrong every time. The only smart money belongs to the professionals who collect the juice.

Yes...which is why the term "smart money" is a myth.
The smart money only exists when people act on actual non-public information, and I'm not talking about knowing the team strengths and weaknesses exceptionally well. ***HYPOTHETICAL*** If someone saw TJ and Savion getting arrested last night at Northgate and then placed a bet on Auburn - that is smart money.

People like to assume that if they aren't successful at something then no one could be successful at it.

There's plenty of smart/sharp gamblers out there laying sharp/smart money. They are the ones moving the lines and getting in on the lines right before they move, not the ones betting a half-point worse at Bovada.

That is correct, and that is somewhat rare in these days of the Information Age especially when you compare it to the frequency that term is used...as it was in this thread when poster said the smart money will come in against Kennedy.

Kennedy is already factored in the spread, so as I said (and GE accurately stated), smart money in this context is a myth.

"Smart" gamblers would be a lot more prevalent if the myth was a reality as you suggest. Cheat sheets and historical research doesn't give a "smart" gambler a discernable edge over the general gambling population. As GE said, if on a few occasions where a select few gamblers acquire unpublished injury/suspension news, that would be an instance of smart money.

Betting against A&M because Billy Kennedy is the coach is a non-factor in gaining a gambling advantage which is what started this exchange.

Hop, you and GE are in WAY over your heads with regards to the discussion on "smart money". But yes, you are correct that "Kennedy" has already been factored into the line.

I suggest you actually go read the book "Smart Money" (Konik).

It's a fair line for the game. Auburn is better ofcourse but it's on the road and like every college game you are betting on the mindsets of 18-22 year old kids.

Any money gambled has always seemed 'dumb money' to me, like playing slots or the wheel at casinos, but I get lots of folks are really into it. And that a few folks are even able to make a living at it. But I'd personally get heartburn relying on sports outcomes for actual income, so all the power to those folks who are somehow able to do that.

Thank you! That's all I was saying in my OP to the guy saying it was smart money to bet against Kennedy...or any coach for that matter. Lines already reflect that factor.
