Selfishly... fans wanted him back his soph year. His decision cost him millions of dollars

Same thing would have happened. NBA does not value players who can't shoot.

But now he's on the Celtics and is going to get some real coaching.

Great spot for Robert. Best coach in the NBA, and there's plenty of talent and depth to allow him to develop.
Celtics needed a(nother) rim protector.

Robert lost a lot of money not going into the draft last year and being a lottery pick versus number 27 this year.

The good news is he is now going to be on a good team with the Celtics.

Best of luck to him in his NBA career!
He'll make up for it with the second contract and RINGS!

Upside: brings length, tremendous scoring instincts and a versatile shooting stroke from deep. His career 31.9 3-point percentage is a bit misleading, as his shot selection as a high-volume scorer in college certainly played a role in his bouts of inefficiency. He has more of a natural passing feel than he showed in college, and when thrust into more of a complementary role at the NBA level his percentages should rise.

He's a threat from 3 spotting up in transition, he can pick-and-pop to space in the half court, he's capable of shooting off the bounce if run off his spots and he can punish a switch in the mid-post with face-up jumpers. He has ample size to play the 4 in today's NBA, and he's able to use his length effectively on defense when fully engaged. Although not a physical defender, he vacuumed 11.6 rebounds per 40 minutes in 111 career games, which bodes well for his ability to survive on the interior. would likely be getting some late first-round buzz if it weren't for concerns revolving around his ACL history.

Drawbacks: has torn both of his ACLs and could very well go undrafted because of the injury concerns. The hope is that an NBA medical staff can help him be more durable. The fact that he doesn't rely on athleticism to get much done bodes well for him moving forward. On the flip side, does lack a degree of toughness, as he's far too laid back on the defensive end and opts to live on the perimeter offensively. He didn't always have the best chemistry with his teammates in college and he can certainly be a bit trigger happy, which he'll have to tone down as an NBA role player.

Potential role: Stretch forward

This guy was just drafted...

As expected, Hogg goes undrafted. 17 SF were selected, and Hogg was ranked 15 among SF. I'm sure he'll get a summer league audition with someone$

Williams has always been a Central Time Zone guy. That Eastern Time Zone thing is a foreign language.

Could be a simple Time zone misunderstanding (Celtics meant 11 am Eastern and Rob thought it was 11 am Central.)

Some SI take on why Robert Williams slipped in the draft. Seems some off-court concerns and then how the past couple of months since the end of the college season and leading into the draft were handled didn't help his cause.

According to league sources, Williams's fall in the draft didn't stem as much from his recurring knee soreness and lower back stiffness as it did from background work. Some teams were not impressed with Williams in interviews, and a string of questionable decisions raised further concerns based on the intel they had. Williams served a suspension for violating team policy at Texas A&M to open this season, chose to skip this year's draft combine entirely, decided to fire agent Mike Silverman in favor of BDA Sports Management with a month to go until the draft, and did little to assuage concerns in the minds of many front offices. The Celtics, to their credit, have the ideal infrastructure in place to bring Williams along and help him adjust to life as a professional. His selection at No. 27 may prove a coup for player and team alike.

Sounds like he landed about where he needed to land given his maturity and ability.
