4 games into the season, but already have played two Big 12 opponents (WVU and Okie State) and a Big 10 opponent (Penn State) in those four.

Offensive Efficiency (points scored per possession):

2006-2007 Team - 1.19 points scored per possession (finished ranked 7th nationally)
2017-2018 Team - 1.15 points scored per possession (currently ranked 13th nationally)
2015-2016 Team - 1.138 points scored per possession (finished ranked 37th nationally)

Defensive Efficiency (points allowed per possession)

2017-2018 Team - .907 points allowed per possession (currently ranked 5th nationally)
2006-2007 Team - .923 points allowed per possession (finished ranked 14th nationally)
2016-2016 Team - .925 points allowed per possession (finished ranked 9th nationally)

The big key for us this year is to keep pushing the envelope on improving as the season goes along. I'd feel pretty good about our chances at a Final Four run if the NCAA Tournament were right now, but there's a long way to go until March.

With so many young players in our rotation keeping that focus shouldn't be a problem, but that's the challenge for this season.

We don't need to get any better to go dancing, but dancing isn't the goal.

yep, a LOT of teams develop in one season. KY usually looks like crap to start seasons. but even not so talented teams evolve and mature- basketball is a great sport in that respect. so much potential in so many teams. you cant stop getting better.

We're scoring 115 points per 100 possessions (13th best in nation) and turning the ball over 22 times during those 100 possessions (271st in the nation). If we can get those turnover numbers down to 2015-2016 levels (17.3%, 117th nationally), that's 5 extra scoring opportunities over the course of 100 possessions.

5 extra scoring opportunities x 1.15 pt/poss = 5.8 extra points per 100 + 115.1 pts we score right now = 1.21 points per possession.

That 1.21 number would be the best in school history and would put us #1 in the nation for offensive efficiency, which paired with our defense would give us the overall #1 ranking nationally. So essentially the only thing standing between us and the #1 spot is our brutal turnover numbers. A few less lazy passes, no getting trapped in the corner, no leaving our backup PF to bring the ball up the court against the press.

I get this feeling that Davis, Gilder and Hogg aren't satisfied with just making it to the dance, especially after thier first season here.

It's going to come down to luck. Can this team stay relatively healthy through March? Because if this team is at full strength, they can beat anybody in the country and will be favored against 98% of teams.

Every season comes down luck with injuries, but that's not something you can prepare for.

I think us improving, and maybe even improving isn't the right word, but knowing what we're going to do in certain situations, is the thing we can control. By late February we should be able to quickly have an answer for whatever an opponent throws at us. Last night showed some flaws against the 3/4 court press, granted foul trouble and player availability was a big part of it, but next time we should have a better answer for that.

We're really good at a lot of things, but it's finding and fixing little things between now and the end of the season that are going to be the difference between really good and great.
