Looks like it's gonna get worse before it gets better at Okie State:

Quote:

Oklahoma State University has received a subpoena from a New York grand jury asking for all documents and communications regarding "actual or potential NCAA rules violations" by players and coaches of the men's basketball team, The Oklahoman has learned.

The subpoena is linked to a college basketball bribery investigation that earlier led to the arrest of fired OSU assistant basketball coach Lamont Evans and some assistant coaches for other teams.

Did Underwood somehow know something like this was coming, causing him to bolt after just one season? Underwood leaving so quickly seemed odd originally, but now it is even more interesting.

Underwood leaving after 1 year really wasn't that odd once you saw the contract that he signed with the Illinois. Oklahoma State wasn't paying him that much compared to his peers, and then Illinois showed up with an offer that doubled his salary.

Most folks would jump ship to take another job that doubled their salary.

Quote:

Underwood, 53, was scheduled to make $6.3 million over five seasons at Oklahoma State, with $3.3 million of it paid out over the first three years of his contract ($1 million this season, $1.1 million next season and $1.2 in 2018-19). At $1 million this season, Underwood was the lowest-paid coach in the Big 12, and ESPN's Jeff Goodman says he will make more than double that at Illinois.

Forgot about how little OSU was actually paying him. Still blows my mind.

Either way, looks like an even better move for him in hindsight.

You wonder if Evans gave up others in the OSU program as part of some plea deal. If the FBI was just fishing, you would think all the schools who had an assistant implicated would get the same subpoena.

Pitino suing Addidas for emotional distress. This could get interesting. I'm sure Louisville and Addidas will pay him to go away.

That is F****** ridiculous. I wasn't sure my opinion of this guy could drop any lower after the multiple scandals the past several years but he somehow keeps finding a way to further lower the bar.

Emotional distress Rick? Really? According to articles like this one, over the years Adidas & Louisville put TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars of money directly into your pocket.

https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2017/10/05/rick-pitino-louisville-adidas-contract-money

Quote:

The overwhelming majority of the money from Louisville's multimillion-dollar deal with Adidas was paid to head coach Rick Pitino, according to a review of the contract conducted by The Courier-Journal.
Of the $39 million Adidas owed to Louisville on their original deal signed in 2014, 98% of the money ended up in Pitino's pocket. (That five-year deal will expire in July but the sides have already signed a new 10-year, $160 million pact to kick in after that includes $79 million in cash.) In 201415 and 201516, Pitino was paid $1.5 million each year, while the basketball program got $10,000 the first year and $25,000 the next year.
Pitino's pay from Adidas was no secretUSA Today noted last year in its coaching salary database that he was paid $2.25 by Adidas in 201617but the comparison between his compensation and the athletic department's share of the revenue is staggering.

So now the oil well has stopped gushing oil and instead of just recognizing he got caught and going off in retirement to enjoy the houses/cars/yachts/whatever the hell was bought with the millions that Adidas paid him, this guy decides to sue for 'emotional distress'.

What a f*** joke of a person.

interesting read about dawkins https://sports.yahoo.com/meet-christian-dawkins-sloppy-reckless-prodigy-college-hoops-brink-213959726.html

and no mention of my swoosh just yet
"...helped him build Dorian's Pride into a noted name on the grassroots scene. Affiliations with Under Armour, Reebok and Adidas followed. So did the players, as a Dawkins roster from a 2013 grassroots..."

If they had too much of one, they wouldn't be very objective, would they?

He won't follow through. Defendant's discover would be a ***** for Pitino, though, I will concede It is unclear who -- he or Adidas -- have more to hide. At any rate, this won't get past summary judgment stage. There aren't any damages here. He took most of what Adidas paid out -- and it wasn't OFFICIALLY intended for him (at least didn't appear to be).

Just the fact that kind of dirty laundry is getting leaked is often a sign that a coach is close to being done.

The school holding out Wiley and Purifoy is also going to sink his season on the court.

No, it is not. Ever since the news broke that Chuck Person was charged with crimes, the writing was on the wall for Pearl. The small sliver of hope he had of keeping his job is probably gone now but it sounds like he doesn't care either way.

Not good for pitino. His continued denials could result in perjury at some point if they get him to talk under oath and he continues his denials.

This is most likely why pearl is remaining silent.

Two Auburn men's basketball staff members were put on administrative leave Monday as a result of the university's investigation into its program, according to school officials, and the fate of head coach Bruce Pearl, who sources have said refuses to cooperate, is still uncertain. The school has not yet released any further information about why video coordinator and former Auburn player Frankie Sullivan and special assistant Jordan VerHulst were put on leave.

I bet a lot or coaches are sweating, but yes thank goodness we didn't hire him

South Carolina made a Final Four and Bruce Pearl may get fired from Auburn after 3+ seasons leaving the program just as bad as he found it, and without even a single NIT to show for it.

Just as we all predicted.
