A&M vs. BYU in the first round of a post-season tourney? That's so 7 years ago...

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

That's a cruel joke on BYU. If there's one school in this country where A&M basketball has another school psyched out, it's the Cougars.

Texas Tech lost tonight by 9 in the 1st round of the Big 12 tournament in the 7/10 game to a Texas Longhorn team that came into the game 10-21 on the season. That can't help Texas Tech's NIT chances.

Right now we have 5 bids "stolen" by conference winners out of the 32 spots:

Belmont
Oakland
UNC Greensboro
South Dakota
Monmouth

Also, there are 12 more potential bids that can still be taken. These teams have auto-bids if they don't win conference tourney:

Vermont
Middle Tennessee
Bakersfield
NC Central
UT Arlington
Princeton
Nevada
Texas Southern
UC Irvine
New Orleans
North Dakota
Akron

As of right now, that means at most there will be 17 bids taken, leaving 15 NIT at-large births. On the other hand, there will at least be 5 stolen, leaving 27 at-large births left to fill.

Weird, I didn't know the Ivy league finally added a conference tournament.

This is the first year they've held a tournament, and it's only for the top 4 teams in the league.

I always liked that the Ivy sent their best team to the dance. I've always wondered why more conferences don't do it that way. I do like that it's just a semi-final/final for the Ivy this year. Maybe more conferences should do that instead of having a 10-23 team in the conference final.

It is laughable that we're even being considered. I just can't see the NIT wanting a team like us.

Well, Alabama went 18-14 and 8-10 in the SEC last season and still got in as a 5-seed before promptly getting smoked by Creighton.

They had some nicer wins than we do but it's not exactly a super high bar to be picked for the NIT.

As of 12:45 am on 3/11, they have us out noting this commentary:

Texas A&M played difficult non-conference and conference schedules, which is why the Aggies are currently 16-15 and still hanging around the NIT bubble. They have 13 losses to teams in the Top 50 of the RPI. But 2-13 against the Top 50 and 4-14 against the Top 100 shows they're probably not a postseason basketball team.

Alright, day before Selection Sunday and there have been 10 bids taken by Conference champs:

UC Irvine: Big West
Oakland: Horizon
Monmouth: MAAC
Akron: MAC
Illinois St.: Missouri Valley
Belmont: Ohio Valley
UNC Greensboro: Southern
South Dakota: Summit
UT Arlington: Sun Belt
CSU Bakersfield: WAC

Tomorrow there is 1 more chance for a bid to be taken if Yale beats Princeton in the Ivy Championship.

That leaves either 21 or 22 At-Large spots to be claimed.

That's a pretty weird way of saying we have one loss to a team not in the Top 50. Whatever.

TCU is a hell of a lot closer to making the field of 68 than a&m is making the NIT. TCU needs 4 more wins to make the dance, a&m needs probably 5 wins to make the NIT (and hope no league champs get upset in their respective tournaments)
You are delusional both in NIT.
