I love to cook and I love garlic but I HATE peeling garlic. Link up your favorite gadget to accomplish this task so Santa can make sure it finds it's way into my stocking!

Honestly, I just started buying the already peeled stuff because I hate dealing with it, too.

Put it in a martini shaker. Shake.

Put side of knife blade on clove and give a whack. The paper comes off cleanly pretty much every time.

This, and if you want sliced garlic, use the shaker method linked above. Works like a charm.

Peel garlic? I put whole garlic in a small 4cup sauce pot, put the lid on and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Garlic is completely peeled when I'm done.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I have never been successful putting garlic in a container and shaking it. What secret magic trick am I missing?

Definitely works. Here's a better video of the process.



For me it works better in bigger containers than mason jars. Maybe making a larger impact against the hard surface does a better job of loosening the skin?

Are you just trying one clove? That might not work, I do the whole bulb.

I've never done that.. just put the whole bulb in a pot, secure lid with my thumbs and shake, like really hard, for 10 seconds. Not a pansy shake, shake it hard. Every single piece of garlic is completely peeled and all the peels are all loose and it's all mixed together. What I don't use, I store in ziplock bag.

I never really paid much attention. Usually if I'm doing fresh garlic, it's a big/bulk dinner (otherwise I just use powder), so I might use half a bulb. I'd probably use the other half within month or two.

At the end of the day, bulb of garlic is what $.50? If you throw some away, no biggie
