1) Feel like an idiot - At Kemah and asked the clerk if this was fresh caught or farm raised. He said fresh caught. My understanding is you can't sell fresh caught Red Fish from Texas waters. Bought 2 fish.

2) Does Red Snapper taste better?

You probably got black drum instead, but I have seen redfish in some fish markets (I didn't ask how it was procured). Either way, they are both very tasty fish, and you can prepare them both the same way. If they have a thick dark blood line, cut it out.

Hmm I live in seabrook and we get redfish from kemah all the time.

I'm pretty sure there's a size limit on catching & keeping, maybe that's what you were thinking of? My neighbors catch em out of Clear Lake fairly regularly.

Upon googling it looks like it is illegal. So yeah maybe what we're getting is black drum, farm raised, or shipped in from somewhere else. What shop were you at?
