No fast food, no chains. What's the best burger in Houston?

Not sure if it's the best in Houston area but I had the #99 from Killens in Pearland and it was pretty damn good.

My favorite burger in town is the SG Burger at Southern Goods. Straightforward cheeseburger with no fancy add-ons. Damn near a perfect burger.

I haven't lived in Houston in a few years, but Rockwell Tavern was my favorite.

I've been on an odyssey since college to find my favorite burger in Texas.

Had my number three tonight. Still damn fine.
Had my number two about 3 weeks ago and it was still absolutely fantastic.
I've not had my number 1 in a few years... I need to make a run out there soon...

At any rate... number 3 is available in Houston.

Ok here goes:*

1: Koppe Bridge, College Station
2: McKenzies Burgers, Huntsville
3: Pappas Bros BBQ** (chain throughout Texas)

*Note: these are my favorites. I'm not saying they're the best in Texas by any popular criteria or for anyone else. Simply my favorites.
**Note: not Pappas Bros Burgers... go to the BBQ restaurant and order the cheeseburger. Quite good.

Just for fun I'll post a few runners up and those I've been severely disappointed in...

Runners Up:
Princes and Fudd's honestly are decent go-to burgers.
Believe it or not Landry's has a pretty damned good burger.
Flemings Steakhouse Happy Hour burger and fries

Disappointments:
Bernie's Burger Bus - Nope. I'm out.
Lankford Grocery - it was alright but not what it's cracked up to be
Christians Tailgate - pass
Smash burger - one step above mcdonalds
Five Guys - sopping wet mess of a burger that disentigrated in my hands

Come to Smithville and eat a burger at Your Mom's.

Edit to add: Your Mom's is actually the name of the burger place. They were in Austin and decided to close up shop and move out East.

if you count cypress, then the Shack is very good
Bernie's burger bus is very good
hubcap is very good
I haven't had it in like 5 years so it may or may not be on the menu anymore and may have changed, but the fajita burger at ninfa's on navigation was amazing.

Lankford - they get hype because the place is kind of a dump
Christians- never had a more than average burger there
Bellaire broiler burger - a great choice for a non-trendy place

Been a while since I've lived in Houston. Around 2012 my top three were:

1) Hubcap
2) Sparkle Burger
3) Stantons (I know the husband passed away so unsure if it's still open)

also, Joy Love burger gets a lot of buzz. their buns are excellent (fresh baked in house) and the burger as a whole is very good. but the bread is better than the patty if that's possible.

Will have to try it. Is the little place off Main right at the rail track still there? I want to say it was a lady's name... Sally's? Sarah's? Something like that... they always had a very respectable burger.

That was Sherry's Kitchen. She closed a couple years ago. Sherry had a great burger but I believe Your Mom's is better. They do a cheese stuffed patty on their burgers and they are delicious. I made the mistake of ordering a double meat burger the first time I went. I ate all of it but definitely shouldn't have.

Mel's Country Cafe just Northeast of Tomball off 2978. And get the onion rings as the side.

That was it. Sherry's kitchen. My aunt and uncle owned an antique shop right there at the corner of 230 and Main for a few years. Used to walk down to Sherry's and eat. That was a good place. I'll try Your Mom's though next time I'm up that way!

If you're ever in Giddings, check out Giddings Buffalo Wings and Burgers. They're currently operating out of a red trailer on the eastbound side of 290 on the east side of town. Also, It's All Good on 77 just sourh of the high school has a damn fine burger. They close at 2:30 though.

Need to check out Your Mom's soon. Usually end up at Pockets since they're one of the few places that serves a patty melt on rye instead of Texas toast.
