I don't put beans in my chili.
That said, I stopped the bean hate a few years ago. I was ragging on bean-in-chili peeps when I was told they grew up eating chili that way bc it stretched the pot. Money was tight. Too tight for all mean chili.

Anyway, just making a point to say there are more than 1 reason why people add beans to the pot.

My wife insists on beans in chili. I've gotten to where I don't mind it at all.

Ain't no problem with beans in chili. I've always viewed chili as trail food, and thus adding re-hydrated beans is totally legit. Whatever stretches the pot and is temperature stable.
Personally I add kidney beans and black beans just for **** and giggles. But no other beans cuz that's just immoral.

One of the dumbest arguments in the history of the internet. That, and the whole kolache/klobasnek argument.

The beans argument is dumb, chili is one of those dishes that can be continuously customized till you get it just right for your taste. I've made it with ground beef, chuck, buffalo, pork, turkey, kidney beans, black beans, corn, spicy, mild, and so on. The only violation of chili rules that exists to me is vegetarian chili, but if that's what you want, then make it and enjoy.
My philosophy on this is simple. If it tastes a good, I'll eat it.
I love beans, but hate beans in chili.
I love raisins, but hate raisins in cookies.
I love nuts, but hate nuts in brownies.
That being said, people that say chili isn't chili if it has beans are just being dumb.

Why is this a silly argument? Do you want me to call your truck a car? Do you drink your coffee from a bowl? Do you wear a pair of sun watches on your face when outside?
The kolache argument is MUCH more relevant bc its words that have been *******ized by city folk who don't care to know the correct vocabulary.

I made chili this evening. A pot for me with beans..a pot for the wife and kid without beans. I need the fiber, and I can blame the stank on the dog.

I like a lot of foods separately that I don't like together. Or that ****up the authenticity of a dish. I love Chinese hot oil but I'm not going to put it in Italian food. I'll use red pepper for that since it's more to the style, even though the oil would probably taste pretty good.

I like beans in my chili for the reasons mentioned in this thread: it stretches out the dish by using a low cost filler and it adds in fiber to help it move through my intestines better.
I usually warm up a pot of Ranch Style beans while I'm cooking my chili, and anyone who wants can mix some in their bowl.

although this formula doesn't always hold up, in this case it works just fine:

I use fish sauce in my tomato sauce. If it tastes good, do it.
I don't like beans. I don't ever eat beans. If you put beans in the chili, I will not eat it. No big deal, you can have it. I will find something else to eat.
