The very best okra is small and tender, straight off the plant into the mouth in the garden. Also can work in salads.

Saute lightly in butter with desired seasonsings

Roasted or grilled as noted above

Stir fry with bacon, corn, onions, fresh tomatoes, peppers, whatever rings your bell. Crisp tender, do not over cook.

Slimey happens when overcooked.

Imagine if all you've ever had is canned spinach you don't like spinach. Same thing about boiled okra, especially when Granny boiled the snot out of it.

This is how I feel about squash too. Growing up we had it one way, boiled (and boiled the snot out of it at that). Couldn't stand it, now I love squash.

Yea, and probably big and tough squash/okra. More cost effective to let that zucchini grow into the size of a small watermelon. Gotta boil it to make it chew able.

Olive oil, sea salt, cracked black Pepper. Cook whole in cast iron skillet. We eat stem and all.

We eat tons of okra in our house:
raw in salads or for dipping in hummus
sauteed with other veggies for a stir-fry
sliced and put into pasta sauce or on a pizza.

Always surprised that there are plenty of people who don't like okra at all.

I know this will shock a lot of posters, but I actually don't like okra.

That being said, yesterday a coworker brought in some that he simply baked/roaster (he said baked) with just salt and pepper. That actually tasted pretty good.

The best okra I've ever eaten was always in the form of okra patties or okra fritters.

Slice the okra into pieces about 1/4 of an inch or so.

Make a batter with flour, salt, baking powder, and water. Maybe an egg, too. It should be about the same consistency as pancake batter. Mix in the okra.

Drop in 1/4 cup circles into thick oil in a pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.

Eat while hot.
