We did one of these walking food tours in DC. Good mix of history, architecture and food sampling. Probably not enough food to make a meal but you get to sample 5-6 different types of food and drinks. Some of the pub crawls also sounded like fun.

Old Ebbitt Grill has great food, right across the street from the White House. I love getting breakfast there and their chili is cheap and delicious. If you're in Georgetown or another one of the suburbs, the restaurant Clyde's is basically the same thing with an identical menu.

Zaytinya is delicious Greek food and, while not cheap, gives you a bang for your buck. Highly recommend.

http://komirestaurant.com/ - LOVE this place. Tasting menu with wine pairings. Pricey, but a great date night dinner. Was named best restaurant in DC a few years ago.

Near the convention center. Ate there 3 times during the week when I was there this spring

There are several good Ethiopian places in DC, too

Assuming you're flying out of DCA, make sure you eat at Cava Grill while you wait for your flight.
