As I've posted before, my wife has a ton of chickens. We get about two dozen eggs a day now and give most away. I've been looking at making pasta with them and getting a pasta attachment for my Kitchenaid. Is it worth it? Will I notice much of a difference from dried?

Yes. Quality is way better making your own pasta.

No personal experience, but I bet the difference is even better with your own eggs.

After eating fresh-made pasta, you will have a hard time going back to store-bought.

I will point out that you don't need to buy the kitchenaid pasta attachment, which can run you anywhere from $100-$200.

You can buy a manual pasta machine at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $35.

Or, you can simply use a rolling pin, flatten out your dough, and cut your own pasta with a knife or a pizza slicer.

Get the kitchen aid, motor makes your life a ton easier. I was cheap and held out for years.....also didn't want to drop 2k on a dedicated machine.....KA was what I settled on, worth every penny!

Fresh pasta is what pasta is supposed to be. There is a time for dried, but fresh is where it's at.


Just did a Quail Picatta with fettuccine and a ton of parm for a private dinner. The people were begging me to put it on the menu.

We did a batch of pickled eggs a couple of weeks ago. They were great.

Our six hens have really laid well lately.

I gave the wife the okay on four. We are now up to 30 and about two dozen eggs a day.

i'd also be happy to take them off your hands...
