Dear Cecil,

To all of our members in Texas and Oklahoma, you are in our thoughts and we hope you are staying safe. We understand that difficult times like these have a way of shifting priorities. Please let us know if you would like more time beyond the normal release window to place your order. We promise to do everything we can to accommodate these needs.

Our Spring Release is quickly coming to an end. We invite you to place your order and to indicate any interest in additional wines by using the wish request feature. This release includes our white wine, the 2020 Fidelio, as well as the 2018 vintage of Houyi Vineyard, Farella Estate, Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, and Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Franc.
TLDR: Your internet may have been out, so we want to remind you to send us money.

That and/or these wines aren't as good of a "value" a we thought after crazy price increases and we still have a lot of allocation left........

Planning a trip to the Fredericksburg area. Recs for 3-5 wineries to visit while there? I think I saw Cecil or another poster works at one in a prior post.

Edit to add: Is there a general schedule most wineries follow? Open 7 days/week or only weekends or Th-Su?

Cecil works at Inwood Estates. He's an excellent host, esp. with a heads-up that you're coming for a visit.

We also like Pedernales, Grape Creek, and Messina Hof (mainly for the connection to the winery in B/CS).

IIRC, they're open most days except Sunday, but only until around 5:00 or 5:30.

Should also try William Chris. He is in Hye before you get to Fredericksburg.

Calais should be on your list as well.

Thanks. Inwood Estates will definitely be one of our stops. Grape Creek will go on the list of possibilities too. Unless you think Pedernales and MH are just awesome places to stop, I'd likely go for places I'm not as likely to find their wine easily retail.

Excellent. And yeah, not married to keeping close to town; anything in the region works.

Yall are doing a great job planning our trip for us. Thanks. I think I've seen some mention of Calais elsewhere on this thread too, or maybe pictures of wine bottles.

All of the Fredericksburg wineries mentioned above should be on the list. Check online to see if they have members only restrictions if you are going to be there on a weekend (namely for Grape Creek). Visiting with Cecil at Inwood will be a high point of the trip. Grape Creek has some the best facilities and atmosphere if you can get in. Our last visit to Fredericksburg was right before Covid. We're ready to go back.

Include Kalasi Cellars. Greg and Nakila Narra Davis want to get it done right. Nakila's parents own Narra vineyards. Plus it's in town, headed east on 290 (Main st) turn left at Whataburger.

I'd love to see you! If you can a reservation really helps. The Reserve Room tastings are mine. The seated Barrel Room tastings are usually Dan, and I'd really encourage you to do that. Especially the last tasting of the day especially the 4PM slot as it's the last in the day so can "go long" at times. With sufficient interest no telling what he may drag out to try!

Grape Creek is members only for the restaurant and some of the patio but anyone can do a tasting I think.

I'll add a vote for William Chris. Calais is on our list to try sometime too.

I'm a fan of Spanish wines. Here are a few I really like; Abadia Retuerta, Tinto Pesquera, Bodegas Antdoto - you might also like Clio Jumilla.

Awesome, thanks. Yeah, I should have asked if reservations were needed at these places or if it was all walk-in. Good to know.

We're still working on dates. Seems like F'burg how lots of smaller, independent hotels - any specific recs on where to stay when we're visiting (two adults, 3-4 nights)?

We've stayed a couple of times at the Lincoln Street Inn, which is, of course, right across the street from the Lincoln Street Wine Bar. The Inn on Barons Creek is good also.

we've used Absolute Charm to book rooms a few times and have been pleased.

I think wineries like Ron Yates and Lewis are worth visiting.... they have some 100% texas wines.. Maybe French Connection, too, which is affiliated with Calais.

Drank this Saturday night. A really nice if a bit bigger PN from Oregon. Really tasty.

Anniversary wine tonight. I've always thought that Ruinart doesn't get the love that it should. Next year is number 15, so I'm going to start looking for some more 2007s for a party.

The other night a friend stopped by unplanned and so I pulled a cork or three. He loved one of the wines and I told him that it was my "house wine".

What is your Tuesday night house wine?
Mine is Cht. Cheval Brun from St. Emilion.

My friend went and bought a case for his house and decided that a dedicated house wine was a good idea.

The Wine Cellar in Lakeway. It was part of a Ruinart tasting. They still have some on the shelf.

That's a pretty nice house wine. Mine is much cheaper. Guigal Cote du Rhone.

Had a great Cote du Rhne recently and we are thinking of getting a case when we need more. We're pretty well stocked though at the moment. Famille Perrin.

They make some great wines. My general philosophy on old world wines is if you find a producer that makes a good high end wine, they make a good lower end wine too.

Our Tuesday night wine runs a gamet. Much is similar to your Ch Brun. In fact I'm going to get some of that, Ch Fleur Cardinale also St Emilion Gr Cru is similarly priced but can be found (at least used to could) in the low 40s.

We are in the Ch Tour St Christophe wine club, it's two cases per year and lots of 2nd label stuff that's about 20Eu wine - some of it is pretty good. Also Ch Tour St Christophe and Ch Bellefont-Belcier and some Pomerol labels.

I'm lucky that I get cellar rat wine from bottling runs - change over wine that may have a bit of the previous wine mixed in, and that last case or two of the hand bottling runs which will have been exposed to a little oxygen. They're a painless Tuesday night wine.

Dana Estates allocation, more wretched excess. I've had their wines up through Onda ($200) and wasn't particularly impressed. Sauv Blanc is $300 per bottle. "Signature Collection" case consisting of 11 single vineyard cabs and one bottle of Sauv Blanc is $6,200.

Don't think I'm a buyer.

Did anyone else make the Scarecrow list this year? I thought I still had a few years to go but apparently I am up to bat. Not sure I am going to do it, I've pretty much stopped buying anything that is over $70/bottle.

$300 for a Sauvignon blanc? Did they use isinglass made from Chilean sea bass swim bladders to filter it?

I think the list is turning over fairly quickly these days with the price increases. I made it last year after about a 3-year wait and ended up passing.

I'm probably out after the 2019 vintage. It's just ridiculous now, especially for a company that initially said they wanted to stay affordable at $95.
