I saw Total Wine in Dallas just got Kentucky Owl Straight Rye, Joseph Magnus Straight Bourbon, and some other Willett stuff if anyone is looking.

I've never heard of the Magnus stuff before

I never have had it or heard of it before the post above.......This is what I saw on the web.

Tasting Notes: Joseph Magnus Straight Bourbon
Vitals: The base of this whiskey supposed to resemble the old bottle found by Turner in the closet. From there, a triple-cask finished spirit was created via "a marriage of bourbon aged in white oak and finished in Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, and Cognac casks." It's 100 proof and costs about $80.
Color: Shiny bronze, amber, dark roasted wheat, Chex mix.
Nose: Citrus, chocolate-dipped oranges, paint thinner, hot asphalt.
Palate: The orange on the nose comes through on the palate, bright yet smooth. I definitely taste the cognac finish. Normally I'm not a fan of cognacI find it a little harshbut this isn't at all discordant. A non-smoky caramel char emerges, then finishes warm and toasty. Definitely warming like a higher-proof whiskey should be, but it tastes like lower proof. A compliment.

Yeah, hard to stomach the Magus price for something that's not real well-known.

I've always heard mixed reviews on the Magnus stuff, but the Kentucky Owl is brand new, so I really have no idea what it's like. It sounds pretty good as an 11 yr Rye at around 110 proof. It's a little pricey for me, so I'll probably just try to find a taster at a bar when I see it.

I liked the regular Kentucky Owl, went ahead and bought the Rye, a bit of blind faith but we'll see.

Anyone know anything about the 1792 Full Proof Cask Strength? Saw it today for $42 and almost grabbed it.

Magnus is fantastic. Melts on your tongue like GTS.

Any idea if they had Willett Bourbon or just the Rye? If bourbon I would love one...and a Kentucky Owl but I'm stuck at work all night...

Cracked a bottle of Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 22 year tonight. Phenomenal nose on this stuff! And great flavors to boot. Mouthfeel was a tad thin for my normal tastes in a high-end bottle, but that's probably mostly because the proof is so much lower than most other bottles in its price range (only 90-ish). Overall a really great pour of bourbon.
