Have I mentioned how Odell keeps hitting it out of the park? HEB on Hollemann has two week old IPA on the shelf!

Dang no cold beer on OK shelves? That sucks. Gotta plan ahead.

Another thing, it's weird to walk out of a liquor store with a whisky bottle directly in your hand. No brown bags required in CO. Not used to that still. I feel like I'm 'in possession' or something.

Drinking an Odell Gramps Oatmeal Stout. This quarters roots release in the montage pack. Pretty damn good.

Heh. I used to live in New Orlenas. You could practically walk out of the grocery store drinking the liquor. It was an adjustment to see hard liquor on the grocery store shelves. Almost as strange as the drive thru daiquiri shops.

MADDUD:

Never easy to guarantee Pliny availability. Check the bottle shops I mention below.

Too many good beer places to mention them all in one post, but here is a decent start:

Downtown/close-in
Breweries/brewpubs:
Deschutes - best overall combo of brew and pub
Cascade - sour specialists if you are in to that
Hair of the Dog - strong ales, really cool selection of old cellared stuff
Pints - in downtown. Haven't been there yet but have heard good things

Bottle shops:
The Beermongers - across street from Apex bar below. Good bottle selection and nice set of rotating taps of rare stuff

Beer bars:
Apex - amazing selection. highly recommend. CASH ONLY.
Bailey's Tap Room - prob best selection of rare/special taps in downtown
Green Dragon (near Cascade brewery) - liked it better before Rogue bought it, but still one of the better beer bars in town.

Further out
Breweries/brewpubs:
Breakside - GABF gold IPA and lots of experimental brews. Recommend their North Portland brew pub rather than their south side production brewery for better Portland atmosphere.
Ecliptic - started by guy who came up with Deschutes Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond, and Jubleale recipes. Great neighborhood as well - if going here, also try the German bar Prost nearby
Hopworks - organic brewery/brewpub. Good beer and food. Very Portlandia.

Bottle Shops:
Belmont Station - prob most famous bottleshop in town. Has an attached bar with rotating rare beers.
John's Market - enormous bottle selection but not really a place for atmosphere. No on-site drinking.
Imperial Bottle Shop - good but not great. Worth going to if you want to combine with a trip to Salt and Straw or one of the restaurants in the neighborhood.

Beer bars:
Horse Brass - highly recommend this English pub. They alternate between RRBC Blind Pig and Pliny the Elder on tap. Tons of other taps with good stuff.
Saraveza
Roscoe's - a bit further out, but great rotating tap selection and nice little neighborhood.

Planning a beer trip from San Francisco to Portland this spring. That's some useful information.

Some beers worth trying from DFW breweries:
Deep Ellum - Dreamcrusher and IPA
Community - Witbier and Mosaic IPA
Lakewood - Temptress
Martin House - Pretzel Stout, Imperial Texan

Having a Yin, imperial stout, from gypsy brewery Evil Twin. Supposed to mix it with yang, their IIPA. Don't have one though.

Damn it's good.

Brad, what did you give up for the West Ashley, or was it with a regular trader type set-up?

An old trading partner was at the brewery yesterday for a fundraiser and special tappings. They were auctioning these and a few others off. He called to keep me in the loop on how bids were doing so I threw down a number and it hit. I'll pick them up next month when I'm out there for thanksgiving.

Lone Pint's Yellow Rose from a bottle. Delicious!

Picked up a bottle in The Woodlands this weekend and couldn't wait to crack it open.

I had a sip of Yellow Rose last night. Delicious! I also had a taste of Avery PumpKYn...a porter with pumpkin and spices aged in bourbon barrels. Not bad, but at 17.22%, I stuck with just a taste.

Got into my Black Butte XXVI tonight. Pretty good, but too much fruit for my tastes w/ the pomegranate and cranberries.

On a lesser (but exciting) note, Karbach has finally started hitting the shelves here in Austin. My HEB has Weekend Warrior, Weisse Versa, Mother in Lager, Hopadillo, Rodeo Clown, and some type of mixed box...

Just got back from 5 days in Seattle and had a great time. We didn't rent a car so we had to stay pretty close to downtown but we still toured 4 different breweries and I managed to find a store right across the street from Pike Place that had a pretty decent selection of bottles and cans.

The 4 breweries we visited were:

Georgetown: They make Manny's Pale Ale which is the best selling craft beer in the state and it is available on draft only which is pretty crazy. With September being the Hop harvest, we caught a few of the fresh hop beers that were left. Eddie Haskell was Georgetown's Fresh Hop India Pale Lager and it was pretty good

Big Al's Brewery: Very small brewery and very meh

Pyramid: They have very little production in WA now and the limited releases (brewery only) were meh

Fremont Brewing: This place was awesome. We had lunch here on Saturday and did a tasting and bought a pint. They just released "The Sister" which was good but I preferred The Brother (both DIPAs). The Bourbon Barrel Aged Oatmeal stout was very good, and they had Cowiche Canyon (IPA) regular, with Citra Hops, and with Mosiac and all three were incredible.

The Bottle shop I found was awesome. The prices on the local beers are crazy cheap and they had stuff in stock that I wasn't expecting. I randomly took this picture, and I get that the newest Black Butte is a shelf turd in Houston, but seeing anything FW in a box in Houston sitting on a shelf??

We didn't have time to check a bag so I didn't bring any bottles home but I had some pretty good stuff in the hotel room at night thanks to that shop.
