That's what I've done the past couple years (skip Rare Beer Festival). Thursday GABF is still my favorite event, especially last year. Last year all the breweries really stepped their game up. I expect the same thing this year, plus they've increased the floor size and amount of breweries.
I haven't made a What the Funk yet, though, and those have been raved about.
There's so much to do on Friday as well. We usually eat a big breakfast and then start working our way back north via breweries. Usually a stop in Boulder, followed by Oskar Blues, and then up Hwy 287 to the Berthoud, Loveland, and Fort Collins spots. Oskar Blues does Fidy Friday, where they put 8-10 special barrel aged and vintage versions of Ten Fidy on tap. Definitely worth hitting up.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting a Thursday session ticket either in the initial sale, or via the secondary market. I may have an additional one or two I can buy for you during the presale, depending on how many of my friends decide to go.
