Wasn't sure where to put this, so I'm dropping it here. I enjoy studying military history and recently was given my great grandfathers model 1911 he used in the trenches as a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. I took it apart and gave it a decent cleaning. Pistol still shoots just fine.

I didn't realize this, but he had brought a few things back with him. He kept his tin cap that still has the blue and white 3ID crest (barely visible) as well as a German stahl helm.

Looking at these items got me interested in collecting and working some restoration projects with some friends, especially some of the rarer weapons of the late 19th and early 20th century.
