I noticed this past weekend the section chief was in line of fire for every cannon shot (step-off and Aggie scores). What's the purpose of this? I'm sure the cannon is loud and clear now if he couldn't hear it before lol. Ride On Ags!

Speaking of the cannon, why do we wait until after the extra point? Didn't they use to fire the cannon when the touchdown was made? You just scored, the crowed is pumped up, fire that cannon and keep the spirit going! What happens if we miss the extra point? Firing the cannon for a touchdown after that would be................blah.

Need to make sure the TD stands. May need to be reviewed due to penalty, etc.

Cannon fire is controlled by the written pregame script and by the press box during the game. The yell leaders, band, and half section all have a "point man" wearing a headset that can talk back and forth to the press box. Press box tells everyone when they can do yells, play a song, or fire the cannon

Not anymore. They've dumped the script. Gameday

They still have a point man down by the gun. The last few years we've had the Artillery Officer be the one on the headset to get clearance from the press box, ensure the firing area is clear, and then he'll give the Section Chief the thumbs up to drop the saber. The gameday script may have been dropped, but they still want some control over when the gun fires.
