So Silver Taps was cancelled last night... no one was told, they simply turned the lights back on and everyone left.

Unfortunately cancelled due to lightning.

I thought they would have moved it indoors as has been done in the past

It's my understanding there was nowhere to move it to on such short notice.

It was after 10 when the lightning was noticed and it was coming closer.

This hasn't happened as before as far as I'm aware so there were no plans in place for what to do.
So when word came that it wasn't safe to proceed the notice went out to turn the lights back on. Word was spread quietly that it was cancelled.

Where could it have moved to? In less than 10 minutes?

MSC? Academic Building?

Arguably a good call.
Danger from lightning and the distraction caused by that concern.
Each currently-enrolled Aggie should be provided the full tradition of Silver Taps.
Each family of those currently-enrolled Aggies should feel the full effect of the Aggie family.

Academic? Really?
MSC? Where?

There are several thousand people there last night.
The Corps with their 2400-2500.
All the fish camps.
The dorms.
The others who come as well.

Just a rough guess, but I would estimate 5-8 thousand as it was the first (and hopefully only) Silver Taps of the year. Academic Plaza was full. More full than I've seen for other first Silver Taps.

So out of caution it was decided to cancel. Maybe if it was known sooner it could have been moved, but again the call was made around 10:15-10:20(ish).
I know the rain/storm didn't hit until about 11:20 or so, but lightning travels. How bad would it be if they had decided to continue and lightning struck the crowd?

It was a difficult call, as Silver Taps is a great (and sad) tradition to remember those we have lost.
Safety must come first.
