My oldest, class of '14, took his oath yesterday, and will be heading to Ft. Benning at the end of the month.

He has been really wanting to serve his country for a while, and we had many conversations whether he went the officer or enlisted route. He wants to be an Army Ranger, and so after looking at his choices, held out for an Option 40 contract.

He got it last week and was processed and sworn in at Houston MEPS yesterday afternoon.

He knows that the road ahead of him will be tough, but he has a "never say die" mindset. I am very proud of what he has done, and what he is about to do.

Please say a prayer that God will get him through the physical and mental challenges that await.

What kind of physical training is he doing to prepare? RASP is the kind of place where you cannot be in too good a shape before you begin.

He was a non-reg....

Got a business degree, a wife, and a job that was really just a paycheck but nothing more.

But he always had the thought of serving his country in his mind. After much prayer and discussion, and the fact that he did not want to look back 30 years later and wonder why he did not do this, enlisted when the option 40 contract was available.
