Monday, police released preliminary information about the Markson case, calling it an "apparent sudden death." Police said a child went upstairs to Markson's bedroom to wake him up sometime before noon that Saturday. The child came back downstairs and told an unidentified adult that Markson was not waking up.
That adult and another unidentified adult found Markson in his bed with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police were called. The adults moved Markson to the floor and began CPR, police said.
Markson was declared dead by a city medic at 12:05 p.m.
Officers found a firearm on the floor of the bedroom.
Police wouldn't identify the child; Markson was a single father whose 4-year-old son lived with him.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office indicated Markson's cause of death was the gunshot wound but hasn't determined the manner of death. Homicide investigators are still on the case.
