All Texas River's outside of the limestone Hill Country are mostly the same color. Well, excect for the east Texas browns.

You could re-bottom the entire length from the springs to downtown but that would be a little disney-esque, no?

Believe it or not, the water quality has actually improved the last 20 years.

And what has caused it to improve?

Several factors:
- Forcing the Zoo to control and treat the runoff that was ending up in the river and eventually the River Walk
- SAWS pipes clean water from the poop plant south of town back into town to do things like water golf courses, etc. A large part of that water is discharged directly into the river walk and is cleaner than the naturally occurring water.

it just rained. it's sediment being transported.

there's a massive urban watershed that feeds the san antonio river at it's headwaters and it is the main drainage structure for most of san antonio...

it could be a lot worse.

Potential San Antonio Marketing Slogans

"Keep San Antonio Lame"

"This will be a nice city when they finish the construction"

"Our inferiority complex isn't as bad as Lubbock's".

"San Antonio - It Could Be a Lot Worse."

As mentioned above, the Riverwalk water is treated effluent. It's not Edwards Aquifer water for obvious reasons.

CPS's two cooling ponds, Braunig and Caleveras lakes, also get treated effluent pumped into them to maintain a constant level. Back in the day, both of these reservoirs got Edwards water.

Ever wonder why the San Antonio River always has a robust flow when you go over the I-37 bridge south of town? Yep, toilet flushes.

That all being said, the treated effluent that is produced at the Dos Rios plant is damn near on the same level quality-wise as Edwards water.

The river was fairly green on Friday afternoon. After the Saturday morning showers, it was back to sandy brown. Like others have mentioned, its the watershed for a LOT of urban spaces. The thing isn't going to look like the Guad during a dry summer.
