How long do you want to ignore this user?
I moved to the San Antonio area(Alamo Ranch) about a year ago. I have a son of 14 years and a daughter of 11. They like to fish, anyone know of any good places we can fish for the day. We like to fish for anything, catfish, bass, etc. Any recommendations to fish would appreciated.

Comal county, new braunfels, don't go to calaveras lake unless you like contaminated water

Medina Lake or river are probably the nearest destinations from Alamo Ranch.

If you don't have a boat the Guadalupe below Canyon is fun this time of year for rainbows.

Otherwise, state parks offer access. Guadalupe River, Blanco and Pedernales Falls offer decent bank fishing.

Calaveras and Braunig can be good from the bank but you're mainly going to have to soak baits in deeper water away from the bank. Which means using considerable weight or wading out to cast. The water isn't contaminated as incorrectly stated above.

The white bass run is starting now (well, it's already started down south) and if you can find access to rivers above the reservoirs you can do well.

If you have a boat that's a game changer and your opportunities increase big time. There are some ponds on the south side that get stocked with channel cats. Otherwise, unless you have the ability to fish on private property, it's slim pickings unless you want to research and locate access points and be able to drive a ways to get there. Or fish from the bank from one of the lakes which can be super challenging most of the time.

Try this place, it's near Medina Lake:

www.paradisecanyon.com

It's a private camping site on the Medina River with swimming, catch and release fishing, etc. You can just go for the day or spend the night. Have fun!

Thank you for the advice, sounds like Medina Lake is the best.

Yes, Paradise Canyon is just below the Medina Lake dam. I think you'll have a good time there. Their website has a map with directions.

You can also try Landa Park, which is on the Comal River in New Braunfels. If the fish aren't biting, there are a lot of other things for kids to do there.
