Coming to San Antonio next weekend for the first time in years, where should I take my wife to dinner?

We'll be staying in downtown. I feel like we have to have Tex Mex one night, but open to other options for the 2nd night! Thanks for the reco's.

Il Sogno and Bohannons are the places to splurge. If you would like higher end Mexican I would recommend La Fonda on Main or Paloma Blanca. The latter two are are an Uber ride away but are better than any of the options downtown food wise. If you have to be on the river Iron Cactus is passable, but all of those joints are the same.

What's wrong with La Fogata?

Agree that Bohanans is great - especially if you're stepping over to the Majestic afterwards for a concert. (Even though I still grill a better steak).

Very average, people rave about it for whatever reason. El mirasol or soluna is better. Rosarios kicks la fogatas average ass

Feast is very good for Brunch.

I am not a fan of the menu at Rebelle, but some may be.

I think the entrees at Battalion are sub-par for what it is going for. I have had better at Guillermo's (a supposedly lower tier Italian). The appetizers are good.

Bliss is a solid choice.

I wish I could grill a better steak than they could. I just can never get it quite right, even with high priced meat. But, with Bohanans it is also about the atmosphere. In all honesty I actually love the Sea Bass just as much, if not more, than the steak there.

And if you don't wanna eat at them in San Antonio you can still catch them in 100 other cities!

Rosario's for mexican. La fonda pretty much sucks. Bland as hell.

There's a pretty good place in the Pearl called Smoke.

I'll put another vote in for Rosarios. I love that place. If someone in your party by chance has a gluten allergy, they have a lot of options there.

I also like Paloma Blanca.

People are so smug about Mexican food. As a San Antonio native I'm just as guilty as the next guy. I've got to remind myself people have different tastes in Mexican food just like anything else. No right or wrong answer.
