Has anyone switched to Induction from Gas stove top and regretted it?

We're in the design stage of building a new house. My wife and I cook often, 2-3 times a day on average, but absolutely loathe the clean-up process for gas stove tops. We're strongly considering an induction stove top, but have never seen one in action.

Has anyone switched from gas to induction and regretted it?

We switched from gas (Bosch) to induction (Thermador Freedom) in the past year and mostly have no regrets. It's way faster to heat up water/other things, is silent, is easier to clean, doesn't pose indoor pollution risks, and is easier to dial in on a specific temperature. Really the only downside is that you're more limited on what pots/pans are compatible with induction. We had to get rid of several cookware items and buy new ones that were compatible.

Maybe a slight other downside would be that pots/pans didn't slide around as easily on our gas cooktop, but the glass surface of induction cooktops means pots/pans slide around more easily (like if you're stirring).

Thanks for the feedback. Our current cookset is compatible with induction stovetops and we we a few cast iron pieces, which I hear should also be compatible due to the heavy metal. I've heard you can get silicon mats to go under pots to keep them from scratching the glass top; Perhaps those would help the sliding problem you mentioned, too.

I've seen in a few reviews that Induction cooktops can sometime emit a clicking sound. Is that still an issue in modern models today?

Have a current client that insisted I put INDUCTION in big letters on their cooktop on Plans, so much in love with it ... "never going back" attitude.

I'll echo everything from DeLaHonta above - we really like our induction unit and wouldn't go back to gas. I'm surprised more people don't install them - the speed at which it gets up to temp is awesome. We have a Bosch model.

A couple things to add - even when you spill, it doesn't scorch like a convection top can, which is a nice bonus. They also make non-slip pads that help with slipping. I don't have an issue with slipping, but my wife uses one from time to time.

I've never heard a clicking noise from ours, FWIW.

No regrets here. We switched to induction about 10 years ago in our previous house and loved it. At that time, we had the first generation Thermador Freedom. It would occasionally make clicking sounds when we used induction cookware with fancy designs on induction plate (as opposed those with a solid induction bottom plate). Thermador later issued a service bulletin that recommended against using cookware with such designs, as it would create issues with the sensors in the cooktop (which led to clicking noises, as it was confused as to where the pans were located which led to it constantly turning elements off and on when it didn't need to). We never had any clicking with cast iron or cookware with solid induction bottoms.

In our new house, we installed the next generation of the Thermador Freedom induction cooktop. I believe it is now made by Bosch, as are several other Thermador models. No clicking noises and the manual appears to indicate that it plays well with all induction cookware. We still use solid bottom induction pans, so we haven't confirmed that aspect. Nonetheless, we love it even more than our old one.

When my SIL first saw it, she made a comment that 'she would never give up her gas cooktop'. However, after she saw what it could do, she changed her tune a little bit…

That said, we do have a gas 'power burner' in our outdoor kitchen. We love it too, mostly because it allows us to do searing outdoors.

The cook top itself doesn't get hot. It uses a magnetic field which rapidly changes and induces a changing magnetic in your pan to make it hot.

The cooktop doesn't get hot initially, but is has to get hot from the pan getting hot... right? Straight conduction.

Consider a potential power outage, was nice during Beryl that we still could cook with our gas stove.

Cool.

Going from electric gas range in college, to gas in first home, to old school electric "Jenn air" from the 90s has solidified my disdain for that for at least the next 10-15 years (sorry induction you're just a fancy electric stove).

New kitchen renovation is getting the 48" Signature by LG.

The non-scorching thing seems super cool though.

Our house had one when we purchased. Came from gas. Like the induction a lot. Not positive we would push for it over has in the future, but certainly have no complaints about it.

I was all ready to post on here how terrible an idea it is to go from gas to induction as I did this very thing three years ago when we bought our current home. I miss my gas range terribly. I was able to cook far better and faster on the gas range. My current cooktop takes a longer to get hot and is very difficult to keep clean. This being said, as I read the other posts, I began to suspect that what I currently have is something different. It appears that I have a glass top electric range....? This is not induction? It appears that induction is worlds better? Color me surprised, I think I'll now have to do some research, and a potential upgrade is in the works.

Yeah that sounds like a regular glass top electric. Those are the worst of both worlds by far. Horrible to cook with and horrible to clean.

I don't know. I feel like I still have PTSD from cleaning ours. I used a 4 inch razor scraper and lots of elbow grease. Hated it. Nothing gets burnt onto the induction glass top so it's just a matter of a paper towel with a little cleaner sprayed on it and everything wipes up.

ETA I didn't mean to pick that weird emoji

That's cool though, I knew very basics about induction but thought the surface still got fairly hot.
