With all of the rain around Houston this weekend, we had a huge limb tear off from an oak tree. This is an 80'+ oak tree and I would like to save the rest of the tree if possible, but I don't think I can. Anyone have any suggestions to give me hope?

Not sure, but if you want to give it the best chance, cut off the hanging limb, then try to remove the splintered parts up top without getting into the undamaged wood. You want to make sure water can't pool in any crevicies and you want to remove the splintered part to keep bugs from finding a cozy home. Then wait and see.
