Finishing stair landing with Pergo laminate

I had a contractor redoing our floors who has been a nightmare to deal with and ghosted us before finishing the project. So I'm left with this top stair and landing to finish using Pergo laminate. The recommended stair nose by Pergo is a total POS 2" wide piece that fits over the laminate and creates a nice trip hazard right as you approach the stairs. Other laminate flooring companies make a decent 4" wide piece that clicks in with the planks, but not Pergo. The option I may go with is just using an unfinished stair tread and cutting/planing it to fit, then stain and finish. That creates a small issue with getting it to match up with the flooring planks without using T mold, but it's better than the Pergo option. Has anyone dealt with this before and has ideas?

Am not a lawyer and not such a craftsman as this, so from this point of view, what I would be forced to do is

Hire a new company that will install the Alternate solution, even if brand of flooring changes and then make only the finish be the worry thereafter .... even if neighboring finishes must change to match ... or not.

Submit this bill to be paid by others
> Certified mail to original installer
> Local Distrcit Attorney
> Local BBB for free consultation & perhaps binding/not arbitration
> Lawyer that can quote some fee cost projections first

You time & life is best spent elsewhere.
This could become a resell white elephant later, if not also a daily irk if DIY was less than perfect.
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

that's a crappy situation..

With that being said I'd work on cutting/planing the POS 2 inch wide piece and try to route a spot into the thicker portion where it will click into the piece of flooring.

I'm trying to come up with a better way to explain it but I'd cut off the thin piece that is supposed to go over the adjacent piece of flooring (using a fine tooth blade) and then figuring out a way to cut into the perpendicular piece so that it mates up with the joint of the flooring.

It may take you a couple of tries but you may be able to get it level doing that and some construction adhesive or brad nails if needed.

Good luck.

One other thing. That is a very small job for a different flooring contractor to take BUT I'd be willing to bet if you saw a crew you may be able to get some after hours work done for cash. They'll probably knock it out in 15 minutes. I'd offer a hundred bucks on the spot.

This is essentially what I was going to do with a stair tread that I had left from when the house was built. I planed it down to be the right thickness and was going to work on routing the edge to make an overlap. Unfortunately the contractor offered to have a guy color match it better with the flooring and never returned it, so starting over. May revisit that idea with another piece.
