Anybody ever used something like this before?

It requires a special box that has a divider down the middle. Thinking of using it an old phone nook that just has a tel line currently to put my modem there.

Eh…maybe I'm old school but I'd be looking at a deep wiremold brand extension and then going with keystone stuff. I don't yank out new work boxes in a wall unless I have to. It's a real pain in the neck and I think you should or will have to use the specialty box for that. If you can, the. Go for it. It's a neat product.

I just sold some of this exact item. But it's for new work. Idk about old work.

Reading more into it they sound like more of a pain for old work than just cutting the nook open more for a full plug

use an oscillating tool to cut through the nails on a new work box. I've removed a few from older homes to replace with deep boxes and this method is usually pretty quick. Just make sure your using a carbide tip blade.
