I just built a new covered porch with a bit of slope to it and we need to add some can lights. What's the right type of can light to get for the slope?

Disney world & I prefer wall/coach lighting for best effect and conversation, ease of lamp (bulb) changing but OK

Lightolier is the eng/arch pro choice for quality, price and forever fixtures.
You could employ the eyeball types but really not needed.
The conventional SOP downlights can serve well IF you study & select the WIDTH of flood lamp (bulb) to insert.

First try would be the widest flood option since this is for conversation, , e.g. 50+ degrees, not something more narrow (closer to a spot) e.g. -20d, that would be directed to reading materials, task lighting.

Be careful of K-values (colors), best served with Cool White Deluxe or CWX or 3500-4100K indoors
but outside conversation perhaps "Soft White" Warm White" 2700-3200K lamps.

Too many OVER light spaces, especially outdoors where Disney properties really show off talent in under lighting ... one can see better and ambiance is more relaxed. Of course security spot lights are at the ready on a separate switch & serve sports, large parties.

What are you talking about? Disney? I'm confused.

OP, I would get a quality LED wafer (Sylvania, Lithonia, ect) that is damp location rated. Mount the driver boxes on the studs. After you put in your "ceiling", then cut the 6" hole, hook the wire leads together, and pop in place.

I'd hang some led strip lights but I'm more function over form. I don't give a hoot about atmosphere, I want that sheet to look like an airport so I can see what I'm doing

But for can lights, just grab the ones with the eyeballs you can adjust. Really don't think anything special is needed since the slope looks minimal.

He said that Disneyworld uses wall or coach lighting for best effect, and that he shares that preference (as opposed to the ceiling can lights you asked about).

I understand what he was saying about Disney. We just got back from Disney a few weeks ago and they do absolutely do accent and ambient lighting extremely well but I just think that's a different appliaxatioj than what I'm trying to do. Ceiling fans and cans are more traditional and functional on a porch than trying to do a bunch of sconces or something. We want to be able to have good lighting for eating and entertaining out there.

Will be difficult to properly light the entire space if you're putting fans under the overhang. Can easily end up with a strobe effect if they're near each other.

And agree with others, that's not enough of a slope to use any time of special product, just use the wafer cans. If you're that concerned about the slope, you can use a gimbal like this. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lithonia-Lighting-6-in-Selectable-Color-Temperature-New-Construction-or-Remodel-Recessed-Integrated-LED-Gimbal-Kit-Matte-White-WF6-ADJ-LED-30K40K50K-90CRI-MW-M6/312186807

You can do flush mount channels and put LED strips in those and it can look pretty good. If you're doing T&G you could even run them in between every few boards and that might look pretty cool.

Good choice, it's an eyeball ceiling light

I've installed sealed gimbal, open gimbal, spot light eye-gimbal, 8" flat wafer, 6", 4" etc.

My thoughts: a slope that shallow isn't going to make a lick of difference unless you specifically want to shine it against the wall. Otherwise a gimbal isnt really going to make any difference for illuminating everything underneath.

4" flat wafers spread out ever 5' or so will give a very good spread of light. I'm very picky and don't like the 5 color 2700, 3000, 3500, 4000, 5000K temp selection.

Stick with just 3 of you want any at all. Reason: the lights have a base set of illuminating leds that are one color. If you dim them those base ones tends to stand out a bit more so the color shifts.
