Not in a floodplain, but our backyard has a slight grade running back towards a creek that is not too far behind our house, which causes the runoff. The drought of last summer when we couldn't water (SUD restrictions) combined with all of the winter rain has done a number on the yard.

Open to suggestions for topsoil and possibly drainage solutions, and for local outfits (located in B/CS) that could assist. Not necessarily looking for the most cost effective solution, but also not opposed to doing some labor myself. Just have no idea what's most effective for this scenario. TIA

Slight grade away from the house? Doesn't sound like a drainage problem.

History: Bee Creek area, volatile soil foundation problems exascerbated by runoff invasions + old yard drainage and drains not working anymore = worse than your concerns.

Pictures? Sounds like you're describing erosion issues. Do you have any sort of wall at the creek?

We're in the same boat, but we don't back up to a creek. Drought, hard freeze and these big rains has our backyard looking the worst it ever has. There's just not as much grass as there usually is to hold the dirt so it's all running off and collecting along the fence, blocking the natural runoff and creating pooling issues in the backyard making it worse. Throw in two 70 pound labs that never stop running and we've got a recipe for disaster.

I'll be fertilizing the crap out of it, aerating and adding sandy loam to a lot of my yard this year.
