Dealing with a 20-year refrigerator that may be near its end. The freezer temp will only get down to about 25 degrees (vs 0 oF setpoint). The condenser coils are clean. Can hear and feel refrigerant surging brought the system in waves. Any thoughts as to whether what this could be and if it's economic to fix?

My experience and opinion is it's not economical. I would let it run as long as possible or until you're just tired of dealing with it.

Gasket clean and sealing properly? Air vent(s) clear? Temp setting and air split ok? Wish I could be more help. Just trying to eliminate the simple stuff. I have a 25 year old Kenmore that has been very solid so I get trying to extend the life.

Freon shouldn't surge. Either low on Freon or compressor is going out.
