I am trying unsuccessfully to acquire a stand alone DTV box. I have a satellite dish in barn. I have a satellite dish on RV. The box would go back and forth between barn and RV. Obviously without paying for whole new service. Willing to pay monthly fee for box though.

DTV will not send me a stand alone box without putting me thru to new contract. Any help around this appreviated

Tried that. Once you go to genie they won't do stand alone

Oh, yeah - that's why we never went Genie. We had our house service & 2 "bedrooms" - one actually was, the other was across our yard in the guest house - which was technically our extra bedroom.

I have Genie on my account and 3 stand alone boxes including 1 DVR. They've been on the account for a few years. It definitely was an option at one point

I might have a stand alone box I could part with, but you would still need a card for it.

With genie, you get 4 boxes that work at once I believe. Genie 2 is unlimited but cannot add stand alone

not sure there is anyway, I tried this about 2 years ago when I upgraded and wanted stand alone box for tailgating.

You might try going the Dish TV tailgater route, I think you can pay as you go on that

Just get a roku. Log into the apps w your directv account. Profit

If I ever needed something for DirecTV that they would not sell me, then Solid Signal was my go to. Check to see if any of their stuff meets your needs.

However, I would do what others have suggested and go to DirecTV Stream. I actually prefer it over the legacy hardware. And you can get a "cable box" for $50 with a voice enabled a remote that only needs an internet signal to deliver your channels to you. Overall cheaper as well.
