Our 1/2 HP garbage disposal just went out after several years of service. I was curious if y'all would recommend upgrading to 3/4 HP garbage disposal or a particular brand? I know when I replaced a 1/2 HP disposal at my old house I had to do it twice. Which - was a blast. Any thoughts on adding more power or using a specific brand (Tool Man Tim Taylor laugh)?

Have always used Kitchenaide 3/4 HP. Current is a Kitchenaide Superba. Have had current one nearly 12 years

Get the one that is the quietest. Costco has one at a pretty good price that I have been using for a year. It isn't as quiet as I would like, but not terrible and does a good job so far.

I assumed you hit the reset button on yours and tried spinning it with a broom handle, right?

Yes, one of the blades is loose and it is making quite the racket - also tripping the breaker.

My mom bought a Moen at HD and I installed it. I was skeptical because I've never seen anything but plumbing fixtures by Moen. I was right. It was trash. Replaced it the next week for her with a Badger/Insinkerator brand. That's what I've always used and always been pleased.

Insinkerator Evo is very quiet. Takes 3 mins to replace. Spin old one off the mount, spin new one on, plug it in.

+1 for Insinkerator Evo. We use the disposal sparingly so have always gone with 3/4HP.

+2 for this. I put one in my rental when an AirBnB guest ruined the old one. It runs very smooth and quiet.

1.25hp American Standard has been great- quieter than what it replaced and is pretty powerful. I think we paid around $80. I have since let our Costco membership lapse but I see it's going for $130 on Amazon.

Nah, there's a definite hum coming from the sink when it's on. It's not the kind of noise that travels very far. People in the attached family room don't notice it at all.

Had a couple of shot glasses fall in once. Found them the hard way. It was A. a new level of loud and B. a special kind of mess.

Installed an Insinkerator Supreme SS last April. It's 1hp and is incredibly quiet. Bought it at HD.

I learned from a renter to Aggies once that when he designs a rent house, ONLY a ONE HP disposer will do. "They put EVERYthing down there, so this extra power saves me many trips fixing it"

I got the slimline American Standard when it was on sale for $70 or something like that and its reasonably quiet and works fine.

My wife just got one of those plastic little kids spoons stuck down one and the thing will not move when switch is flipped. Is there anything I can do or just go buy one and replace?
